I. Learning competency
a. Illustrate and interpret the product of whole numbers as the total number of
objects in equal groups using addition.
II. Objectives
At the end of the lesson 70% of the students should be able to:
a. illustrate multiplication as repeated addition and counting by multiples;
b. use repeated addition as a strategy to multiply numbers; and
c. construct addition and multiplication sentence.

D. Motivational Activity
1. Show three transparent box filled with similar figures with equal numbers.
2. Ask pupils to guess the number of objects inside the box.
3. Let a volunteer count the marbles to find out the answer.
4. Relate this to the concept of multiplication as repeated addition and
counting multiples.
E. Lesson Proper
A. Presentation of the topic
a. Tell the class that the number of objects distributed fairly inside the box
and the number of box illustrates the concept of multiplication as
repeated addition and counting multiples.
b. Ask the pupils the following questions:
c. What addition problem does the situation/problem shows?
d. Define these situations as repeated addition as we are adding the
same number or equal groups repeatedly.
e. Using this definition, ask the pupil to find the product of the two
grouped objects.
B. Analysis
a. The teacher asks the following questions:
a. What is multiplication?
b. How do we find the product?
C. Abstraction
a. Introduce to the students that the symbol x indicates multiplication.

MULTIPLICATION – means that you have a certain number of groups of
the same size.
4 + 4
c. Relate that finding the SUM of the same number repeatedly is like
multiplying numbers.

Provide other examples:
+ + = 10
5 + 5 + 5 = 10
We can solve it by adding, 5 + 5 + 5 = 10
D. Application
Group activity (The class will be divided in 5 Groups)
Mechanics:
1. Find the product of the objects in the problem assigned to each
group.
2. Put in the box the corresponding letter of your answer to reveal the
hidden word.
3. Write the complete solution of your answer in a cartolina.
4. Each group must select a reporter to present their output.
Sample:
1 2 3 4 5
