I. OBJECTIVES

Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of key concepts of the

sequence , polynomial function.
Performance Standards The learners is able to formulate and solve problem involving
polynomial function in different disciplines through appropriate
and accurate representation.
Learning Competencies
/ Objectives (Write the At the end of the period, the students are expected to:
LC code for each) 1. define the polynomial function and the concepts associated
with it;
2. show the different concepts and parts associated with
polynomial function; and
3. relate the polynomial function to real life situation.

III. PROCEDURES

A. Daily Routine
[Prayer]
Let us all stand and we will pray

Dear lord,
May be through your guidance,
Add love to the world
Subtract evil from our own lives
Multiply good words to your children
And divide your gifts and share them to others.
Amen.
[Greetings]
Good morning class, good to see you today.

[Classroom Management]
Before you take your seats, let’s do the LOVE check:

L-ine your chairs properly,

O-bserve silence and maintain cleanliness,
V-alue what your teacher says,
E-njoy this day, don’t be shy and have a big smile.

[Checking of Attendance]
I hope that everybody is on his/her proper seat, so let us check
the attendance.

Who’s the secretary of the class? Do we have any absentees for

today?

POLYNOMIAL FUNCTION

B. Activity
Every group will receive an envelope containing the activity
Establishing a purpose wants to solve. But before that please be reminded with the word
for the lesson TIME:
T-ime must be checked
I-nfluence others to listen
M-ake sure to pick up the mess and
E-njoy while working with your group

And be guided with the following criteria:

CRITERIA POINTS
All Correct answer 10
Neatness and 5
Legibility
Work Cooperatively 5

You are given 5 minutes to come up with your answers. Little

helpers your timer starts now!

Arrange the polynomial function into standard form and

determine the degree of polynomial function, leading term, leading
coefficient and the constant term.

ANALYSIS
1. For Group 1, how do you arrange the given polynomial function
into its standard form?
2. For Group 2, how do you arrange the given factored polynomial
function into its standard form?
3. For Group 3, how do you determine the degree of the polynomial
function and its leading term?
4. For Group 4, What the diference of leading coefficient and
constant term ?

ABSTRACTION
Providing
generalizations and D. Abstraction
abstractions about the Kinds of Polynomial according to the number of terms;
lesson 1. Monomial – is a polynomial with only one term.
2. Binomial - is a polynomial with two terms.
3. Trinomial – is a polynomial with three terms.
4. Polynomial – is a polynomial with four or more terms

Kinds Polynomial according to its Degree;

1. Constant – a polynomial of degree zero.
2. Linear – a polynomial degree of one.
3. Quadratic - a polynomial degree of two.
4. Cubic – a polynomial of degree three.
5. Quartic – a polynomial degree of four.
6. Quintic – a polynomial of degree of five.

A Polynomial Function is a equation or expression equated to

P(x), y, or f(x).
4 3 2
An example of this is y=x +2 x −x + 14 x−56 . And a
polynomial fuction can also be written in its factored form. The
factored form of our example is y=( x 2 +7 ) ( x−2 ) ( x + 4) .

A polynomial function can also be written in its standard form.

The standard form of a polynomial function is written in its
decreasing powers. Our given example is written in its standard
form.

The Leading Term is the first term in the polynomial function

written in standard form having the highest degree of exponent. In
our given example, our leading term is?

The Degree of the Polynomial Function can be determined

with the help of the term or variable having the highest power. In
our given example, what is the degree of the polynomial function?

Now, the Leading Coefficient is the coefficient of the term

with the highest exponent. In our example, our leading coefficient
is?

And lastly, the Constant Term is the term that does not contain
any variable. In our example, what is the constant term?
APPLICATION
I will ask five (5) questions and you have 30 seconds to answer
the question the first group to raise their answer correctly will get
one (1) point and the group having the highest point will be our
winner and will receive a price . Are my instructions clear?

1. What is the standard form of y=−36+ x 2−3 x 3 +5 x 4 −x ?

2. What is the degree of the polynomial function f ( x )=x 2 (x 2−3) ?
3. What is the leading coefficient of y=( x +5 ) ( x + 4) ?
4. What is the standard form of f ( x )=x ( x−4 ) ( x +4) ?
5. What is the constant term in the polynomial function, y=3 x ?

F. Values Integration

reach the finish line.”
