Has VSP Amplified Batteryless Telephones MIT HANNE KNUTSEN» Technical Manual for 12 stations system (System with station selection) CONTENTS 1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION BASIC DESCRIPTION OF AVAILABLE STATIONS 3. FUNCTION DESCRIPTION 4, INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION 5. OPERATION 6. TROUBLE SHOOTING + SYSTEM DRAWINGS Issue 1-93 page 2 1, GENERAL DESCRIPTION The VSP Amplified Batteryless Telephone System is designed for safe, loud and clear communication and as a replacement of the traditional Sound Powered Telephones. The traditional facilities are retained and an low power consumption amplifier with capasitor-battery ensures an excellent communication. By use of dynamic microphone- and receiver-inserts, 4 times louder speech and listening level are obtained compared to the Sound Powered Telephones. The VSP system is independent of the vessels power supply and fullfills the demands for emergency communication between vital positions onboard. The VSP system described in this manual is a system consisting of up to 12 main station with selector switch for selective calling between all connected stations ‘The VSP system can also be connected to a 24V DC power supply and work as a Common Battery Telephone system. 2. BASIC DESCRIPTION OF AVAILABLE STATIONS The VSP system can offer a number of various stations with station selector switch, designed te perform exellent and safe communication in any area and under all conditions on board a vessel or rig. When activating the hand generator an AC voltage appears between PS and P9. Being rectified in D17 this will give Dc power for two purposes: 1.The capasitor C7 will be charged and act as a battery power for the transistorized amplifier. The voltage across C7 is limited to max.39VDC by the zener diode Z1. The voltage will slowly decrease from 39vDC down to less than 20V during a time of 15 to 20 minutes. In spite of the change in voltage level, full amplification will be obtained during this time. By replacing the strap P6 with an ampere-meter, the amplifier quiescent current can be messured, Delivered from Vingtor the quiescent current is set to: Iq = 20 uA at U = 30V by adjustment of RV1. The circuit voltage levels for 30V level across C7 are shown in the circuit diagram (next page). ‘The voltage reference (0V) are pos. 2 on the terminal strip. 2.Creating call signal power. a) Station VSP-11, VSP-13, VSP-123, VSP~122 and VSP-122P The oscillator, consisting of IC1, R3,4,5,6 and Cl, will start when the Dc voltage exceed zener diode, 22 (10V), limitation. A calling tone will be heard in the microphones both at the calling station and the station being called. The calling tone frequency is mainly determined by Ré and Cl and is 2500Hz It is not recommended to change the calling tone frequency because this frequency is adjusted to the mechanical resonance of the handset. However, if changing of calling frequency still is wanted, change the value of Ci. Because of the crank speed, the calling tone will have a fluttering frequency about 15 Hz. Issue 1-93 page 6 Depending of the environnentals it is possible to choose high or low level for the calling tone by strapping on P7 as shown in the schematic drawing. b) Station VSP-12 and VSP-121: The buzzer unit, Sonitron KPE-750 will start when the De voltage exceed zener diode, 22 (10V), limitation. A calling tone will be heard both at the calling station and the station being called. ¢) For stations being used in hazardous area, ySP-553 and VSP-556, no calling tone is supplied. call to a station in hazardous area will be indicated by use of Ex approved audible or visible signal units. When VSP-553 or VSP-556 being called, a relay Ki in the buffer unit will be activated and neccessary power for the signal devices will be supplied. The microphone capsule line is in all VSP units marked no, 1 and 2 on the screw terminals. Respectively the ear capsule line is marked no. 3 and 4. The microphone capsules involved in the conversation will be connected to the input transformer of the system amplifier, located in VSP~11. Input impedance is messured to: Z = 213 ohm f= 1 kiz Z = 180 ohm f = 250 Hz (R = 52 ohm) The signal level between 142 = 5 - 10 nV The ear capsules involved in the conversation will then Joad the output transformer 12 of the system amplifier located in VSP=-11. output impedance is messured to: Z= 92 ohm f= 1 kHz Z= 60 ohm f = 250 Hz (R = 1,5 ohm) The signal level between 364 = 0,7 V Issue 1-93 page 7 Issue 1-93 page 3 4, INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION one station MUST BE a VSP-11 in which the transistorized amplifier is located. The other stations can be chosen from one of the other station alternatives, depending of the environments. The connection between the units in the system is very simple. All stations in a system are connected in parallel, i.e. terminal no.1 in all stations are linked together, terminal no.2 in all stations are linked together and so on. The terminal strip in each station is numbered from 1 to 16. The microphone capsule line is is in all VSP units marked no. 1 and 2 on the screw terminals. Respectivly the ear capsule line is marked no. 3 and 4. Nos. from 5 to 16 are connections for station calls. Station VSP-12 and VSP-123, having built-in latch relay circuit for activating external audible and/or visible signal units, makes an exception due to extended numbers from 17 to 22. no.17 is + (pos) no.20 is - (neg) input terminals for local external 24vDc power for signal units no.18 (pos) no.19 (neg) terminals for connection of signal units (24VDC, max.5A) no.21 no. 22 terminals for connection of external “Alarm Stop" button. ‘The VSP system can be runned as a common battery telephone system by connecting external 24vD¢ to the system amplifier. Additional terminal numbers located in VSP-11 are: no.23 is + (pos) no.24 is - (neg) input terminals for external 24vDc power supply NOTE. All stations in a VSP-system have been given a preselected call number from Vingtor Marine as. Issue 1-93 page 9 cabling Recommended cable: 0.5 sq.mm revolved in pairs with an outer insolated screen, as RCOP Number of wires needed: 4 (two twisted pairs, terminals 1&2 and 344) + one for each number of stations in the actual system. Wires for terminal numbers 142 and 344 must be revolved in pairs. The screen must only be connected to terminal 2 in VSP-11. This to avoid noise problems. 5. OPERATION Set the station selector switch to wanted extension number. Turn the call generator until a loud beep-tone is heard in own station. This will be about 5-6 turns. Lift off the handset, press the button and keep it pressed during the whole conversation. You may now communicate with full power and without distortion for a guaranteed period of 20 minutes. After 20 minutes the speech time can be extended by turning the call generator again. By calling a station with a built-in relay circuit for operating external signal units, the relay is activated for about 20 seconds. The signal may be muted earlier than 20 secconds by pressing the "Alarn Stop" button located on the front of the station. The same relay circuit as described above can be delivered built into a separate wall-mounting box and hooked up to any actual station. In noisy areas a headset with noise compensated microphone may be connected to the station, either fixed connected or plugable via separate plug box. Issue 1-93 page 10 6.
