RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

This chapter present the design of the study, sources of data, data gathering instrument,

instrumentation and validation, statistics techniques and instrument, and sampling

techniques statistical treatment of data.

Research Design

The researcher have conducted a descriptive developmental design in this study

wherein the researchers produced an a sandblaster sand remover. Developmental research is

defined as the systematic study of creating, developing, and assessing instructional

programs, processes, and products that must meet internal consistency and effectiveness

requirements. This is in contrast to simple instructional development. Research on

developmental processes is especially significant when it comes to instructional technology

(Richey 1994). The product developed may tested the quality characteristic rated by

evaluators who were involved in the development process of the sandblaster sand remover.

To measure the quality characteristic, the study employed a quantitative method using a

5- point likert scale in analyzing the response from the product evaluation scorecard. This

study adopted the 5-point Likert Scale quality scorecard from the study of Aldave (2020),

wherein the researchers enhanced and changed the quality scorecards in term of

specialization from food to mechanical technology description.

Source of Data

Data gathered using a product evaluation scorecard from the five(5) panel of evaluators

or panelist from Catanduanes State University – College of Industrial Technology Instructors /

mentors with different field specialization; two (3) mechanical and two (2) electrical, to evaluate

the development of the improvised welding machine utilizing recyclable materials which were

statistically analyzed the data using quantitative scale.

Instrumental and Validation

Qualitative research has been critized for it’s rigor and strength of validity and realibility

of the data and conclusions. It is important to consider realibilty and validity in creating your

research design (Middleton, 2019) because it increase transparency and decrease opportunities to

insert researcher bias in qualitative research (Singh, 2014). The quality scorecard 5-point Linkert

rating scale used by Aldave (2020) will be modified and enhanced by researchers to rate the

quality characteristics from the specialization of food technology and mechanical technology

description.

Data Gathering Procedure

The data gathering procedure has three stages which are: (1) innovation of sand blaster

rust remover using recycable materials, (2) evaluation of quality charateristics, and (3)

determination of the degree quality characteristics.

Stage 1 involved the innovation of sand blaster remover using recycable materials,

namely used by air compressor, a safety box and scrap metals.

Stage 2 involved the evaluation of quality characteristic through the use of a product

evaluation scorecard rated by the five(5) panel of evaluators.

Stage 3 involved the determination of the degree quality characteristic through the

analysis of the response in the product evaluation scorecard using 5- point Linkert scale.

STAGE 1: Innovation of sand blaster rust remover

STAGE 2: Evaluation of characteristics

STAGE 3: Determination of the degree of quality characteristics

Stage 1: innovation and evaluation of sand blaster rust remover. In developing sand

blaster rust remover , the researcher prepared used air compressor nozzle, scrap bars, metal

frame, and a air compressor.

The following are step-by-step procedures in constructing the sand blaster rust remover

machine;

1. Prepare all the metal scrap for the sand blaster safety box, compression hose, and air

compressor nozzle.

2. Weld the metal to construct a small box to make the safety box

3. Flat a screen to segregate the metal chips and sand on the flooring of the box

4. Connect the hose to the compressor nozzle and another hose to the sand jar

5. Connect the hose with compressor nozzle to the air compressor machine
6. Close the door of the safety box with a scrap glass or scrap fiber glass to provide the view

of the workpiece

7. Prepare a fine white/black sand

8. Keep full of air the air compressor machine

Stage 2: Evaluation of Quality Characteristics of Sand Blaster Rust Remover, In this

stage, the product will be rated by the selected five (5) panel of evaluators and the product

was analyzed to validate the panelist’s judgement on the sand blaster rust remover.

Stage 3: Determination of the Degree of Quality Characteristic of Sand Remover Rust

Remover. This stage involved the determination of the degree of the quality characteristics

among the evaluators. The degree of quality characteristics is terms of workability, safety,

efficiency, and durability. These was determined through a 5-point Linkert scale. A 5-point

Linkert scale was used determine the degree of quality characteristics as rated by evaluators.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The statistical tool was used to evaluate the results of the innovation of sand blaster rust

remover. Weighted mean was used to process the evaluators scores on various proportions

evaluated regarding to the workability, safety, efficiency, and durability.
