Past Simple

Es uno de los tiempos verbales más
utilizados del inglés y uno de los más
importantes.
Se utiliza:
Para hablar de acontecimientos que
ocurrieron en el pasado.
Para hablar de estados de ánimo.
Para hablar de acciones repetidas en el
pasado.

Ejemplo:
Leonardo painted the Mona Lisa.
When I was little I loved playing cards.
Add "ed" to most verbs: If a verb of one syllable ends
• jump →jumped [consonant-vowel-consonant],
• paint →painted double the final consonant and add
"ed":

• chat chatted
If the verb ends "e," just →
• stop stopped
add "d": →
• incur incurred

• thrive thrived →
• prefer preferred
• guzzle→ guzzled

If the final consonant is "w,"


If the verb ends [consonant +
"x," or "y," don't double it:
"y"], change the "y" to an "i"

• sew sewed
and add "ed":
