What is the need for quantitative data collection?

Among the main advantages of using quantitative methods to carry out research are the following: It
allows a broader study, which involves a larger number of subjects and improves the generalization of
the results.
It allows greater objectivity and precision of the results.
ualitative research involves collecting and analyzing non-numerical data to understand concepts,
opinions or experiences, as well as data about lived experiences, emotions or behaviors, with the
meanings that people attribute to them. For this reason, the results are expressed in words.
This type of research is based on the researchers' judgment, so they must carefully reflect on their
choices and assume that it is a technique that is commonly used in areas such as anthropology,
sociology, education or history, among others. others, as it helps them gain a better understanding of
complex concepts, social interactions or cultural phenomena.
Main methods and techniques of quantitative research
The main quantitative research methods are experimental, survey and analysis of data obtained from
secondary sources in terms of the techniques used to collect information and quantitative data, the
most recognized are usually the questionnaire, documentary content analysis and the compilation of
existing data from various secondary sources such as research reports, national censuses and surveys
or publications and records of state institutions and ministries, among others.
Probability Sampling
Probability sampling is a sampling method (sampling refers to the study or analysis of small groups of
a population) that uses forms of random selection methods.
The most important requirement of probability sampling is that everyone in a population has the same
opportunity to be selected.
For example, if you have a population of 100 people, each person would have a 1 in 100 chance of
being selected. The probability sampling method gives you the best chance of creating a
representative sample of the population.
This method uses statistical theory to randomly select a small group of people (sample) from a large
existing population and then predict that all responses together will match the general population.
For example, it is practically impossible to send a survey to every person in an entire country to collect
information, but what you can do is use the probability sampling method to obtain data that can be
very good (even if it is obtained from a smaller population).
Types of probability sampling
Simple random sampling, as its name indicates, is a completely random method used to select a
sample. This sampling method is as easy as assigning numbers to individuals (sample) and then
randomly choosing numbers from among them. numbers through an automated process. Finally, the
numbers that are chosen are the members that are included in the sample.
Stratified sampling: This is a method in which a large population is divided into two smaller groups,
which generally do not overlap, but rather represent the entire population as a whole
Systematic sampling is a type of probability sampling where a random selection is made of the first
element for the sample, and then subsequent elements are selected using fixed or systematic intervals
until the desired sample size is reached.
Cluster sampling helps us when it is impossible or impractical to create a sampling frame of a target
population because it is widely dispersed geographically and the cost of data collection is relatively
high.

Types of interviews to collect quantitative data

The three most important types are the structured interview, the semi-structured interview and the
unstructured interview.

Surveys and questionnaires for quantitative data collection

A questionnaire is, by definition, the standardized instrument that we use to collect data during the
field work of some quantitative research.
The survey is a research method compatible with the use of various data collection techniques and
instruments.
Quantitative observation method.
Quantitative observation is an objective collection of data that focuses primarily on numbers and
values, suggested "associated with, of, or represented in terms of quantity." The results of quantitative
observation are obtained using statistical and numerical analysis methods.
Review of documents in quantitative research.
It is a complementary observation technique, in the case of a record of actions and programs.
The documentary review allows us to get an idea of the development and characteristics of the
processes and also the information that is confirmed or questioned.
