Formula Verb Form


May I help you? Use ‘May’ or ‘Can I’ followed by the base verb
in a statement.
Are you looking for something? Use ‘Are you looking for’ something or anything
in specific object.
Would you like some help? Use ‘Would you like’ some help or some help or
recommendation.
Do you need some help? Use ‘Do you need’ some help or some help or
recommendation.
What can I do for you? Use ‘What can I do for’ you, her, him.
Create one dialog about Asking and Offering Help by using some of the previous
expressions. Write in your notebook.

C. Read and observe the dialogs. Pay attention to the italicized expressions. Answer the
questions that follow.

Dialog 1
Anna : Are you okay Tom?

Tom : No.
Anna : Is there anything I can do?

Tom : No.

Anna : Oh. What's wrong?

Tom : Everything.

Anna : I see. Can I give you a hand?

Tom : My computer has crashed. I've lost my phone. And there's a big problem with
my timetable. I’ve got two meetings scheduled at the same time with two
extremely important clients. I can't do them both at once!

Anna : Let me help.

Tom : Thanks Anna, but these are big, big clients. They need someone of experience.

Anna : Well, give me a shout if you need anything!

Tom : I can handle this, alright?

30 minutes later

Tom : Anna? Could you help me? They've both arrived at once! Oh god! I'll deal with
Mrs. Kumquat.

Anna : Okay.

Tom : You talk to Mr. Lime, he's from a company called Citrus Ventures. They
own hundreds of juice bars.

Tom : Just keep him occupied Anna, tell him how great he is... no, no, tell him how
great I am. Find out what he wants. If it's about the - well, never mind, just be
nice.

Anna : Understood.

Dialog 2
Abby : I was wondering if you need any help on your new project.
Ben : Sure! That would be great! Are you good at writing or would you rather do the
computer work?
Abby : I would like to help with the computer work.
Ben : Great! We are going to be working in teams of three. Are you OK working with
others?
Abby : Yes, I like working like that.
Ben : We will begin next Monday. Would you be available then?
Abby : Yes, I can be there.
Ben : Well, if you could send me your basic background information before next
Monday, it would be useful.
Abby : I will send the information to you.
Ben : Well then, thanks for your help. Have a great day!

Dialog 3
Ronald : I have just bought Justin Bieber concert ticket.
Karen : Wow I am jealous of you. How did you get the concert ticket? I saw it sold out.
Ronald : Yes most of all the tickets sold out in the first day. I am lucky because someone
sold it to me.
Karen : How could it be?
Ronald : He said that his sister did not want to go, so he sold the tickets.
Karen : I need to go Justin Bieber concert.
Ronald : Don’t worry, I have bought the two tickets. Do you want me to give it for you?
Karen : Thank you very much, Ron. How much do I need to pay the ticket?
Ronald : No I give it to you, so you don’t need to pay.
Karen : You are such a great friend.
Ronald : As long as you are happy. Here is the ticket.
Karen : A Justin Bieber ticket concert, what a joy.
Ronald : Do you want me to pick you up when the show begins?
Karen : Yes, please. We can go together.
Ronald : Okay I will see you until the concert begins.
