Proposal Intro:

Hi,_______________________. It’s nice to have everyone on board. Now let’s make this quick by
pointing out the essentials. Now, _______________________. Just a few questions.

a. Any co-author of the book that might have interest in this endeavor?

b. Was this considered for a film before?

c. Any film inquiries?

d. any part of the book that is fictional?

e. do you have any problem getting all of the personal circumstances in the plot being publicized?(if not,
which ones you do not want to be publicized)

f. in case something happens to you, who do you assign as claimant?

Right. So now, I need to look at the required licenses. This is important for the parties’ protection.

I have here your LOC number. Can you verify it for me?

I do not find any Writer’s Guild Certification. Do you have one? (If author asks what is writer’s guild; say.
This is an organization that issues a certificate for any work in order to secure other works derived from
it. Like for example, in your case your book can either be made into a movie, in which case, we need a
script. Although we take charge of making the scripts, we make sure the plot from which it was taken is
registered. So in case a similar plot will be made into a movie, we will not get caught in the net trying to
prove that what we have was actually derived from a different source and therefore, we won’t get
accused of plagiarism because this matter is something that we movie makers are trying to avoid at all
cost.)

(if autho asks: can you do the registration yourself? Say: no, we cannot because registration is
something personal for the author. Not all books get considered for a film so until that happens, there
actually no sense of urgency in registering. although authors who preempt things would actually do it in
adavance, we do not take it against those who did not. Now in your case since you mentioned that this
is the first time this is being considered, I was already caught in some sense that you do not have, but
again, it is understandable because prior registration is primarily preemptive)

Do you have current marketing deals with your first publisher?

Alright. I already have the information that I need. what I can say is this book is perfect for a movie. I
love the substance, the plot, the organization. The only thing holding me is the registration with the
writer’s guild. Unless you get one, we can proceed with the negotiation. Then We can go to a designated
place near your location and discuss the terms of the contract. Now this is a pay per view contract. You
have an idea what is pay per view? You are only paid a certain percentage of all theatre sales. In your
case, we are offering 18%. So this will not be exclusive. No holding period. The film run is only for 6
months. That means we hold it for six months. We pay you pay per view for that period and the
payment terms and schemes will be discussed in the contract. After six months, the movie will be pulled
out from cinemas and after that time, if anybody wants to do filming based on you book, they are free.
But again, for six months, we hold it because we are the one screening and paying you so I guess it
makes a lot of sense, right.

Now, going back, if again you wish to register with the writer’s guild for us to proceed, we will proceed
with contract negotiations. Once we reach an agreement, we will pay you a royalty check in an amount
between $7000- $9000 depending on the company discretion. A prorated amount will be taken out from
that advance royalty in every pay-per-view payout made to you. Again the details of which will be laid
down once contract talks will be in progress. So what is your decision?

(if author asks something related to royalty and pay per view, just say: “answers to these questions are
reserved until contract talks will begin”)
