In the realm of a student’s education, the pivotal roles of parents and teachers shape the
foundation of learning. As we navigate the complexities of commitment and responsibilities, the
question arises: To what extent do teachers and parents share the responsibility in shaping a student’s
education? In addition, who bears the primary responsibility for a student’s behavior? This essay delves
into the different roles of parents and teachers, seeking to unravel their impact on a student’s academic
and personal development.

In my perspective, parents bear the responsibility for shaping a student’s behavior as they hold
significant influence over their attitude. I believe that a student/child should already have basic
knowledge from parents or guardians before entering to school for teachers to work and enhance their
attitude and behavior. The account of Zunaira Fatima (2023) clearly illustrates the pivotal role parents
play in a child’s development. While genetic factors contribute to a student’s predisposition, the impact
of the environment is notably more substantial. Parents are entrusted in teach values, ethics, and
morals, thereby molding a students behavior and decision-making. They not only influence the genetic
foundation but also establish the paramount and enduring environment that shapes a student’s
character.

According to Andrea Proaño Calderon’s interview (2018), the significance of parental involvement
in a child’s life during the crucial early years cannot be overstated. During this pivotal period, parents
surpass the time investment of schools and teachers, solidifying their position as the primary influencers.
Beyond the fundamental care they provide, parents assume a multifaceted role, actively molding their
child’s behavior. It is noteworthy that children, at a very young age, can procrastinate based on what they
witness. This emphasizes the impact parents have in shaping not only the immediate well-being but also
the long-term behavioral patterns of their offspring.

Although some may argue that teachers should shoulder a child’s behavior, considering the time
spent at school, as key influencers and role models, teachers are expected to cultivate a positive and
disciplined learning environment. This fosters not only academic success but also responsible and
respectful behavior, leading them to believe that teachers are responsible. This argument may sound
compelling because it has a point: teachers also teach students morals and personal development.
However, it’s essential to acknowledge that parental guidance, home education, and support play an
even more pivotal role in a child’s overall upbringing. The collaboration between teachers and parents is
integral for comprehensive and balanced development.

In conclusion, both parents and teachers significantly contribute to shaping a student’s education.
However, the pivotal role played by parents surpasses that of teachers. Additionally, parents bear the
primary responsibility for influencing a student’s behavior, underscoring the critical impact of their
involvement in the educational journey.
