Review: Animal Adventures

[1] Good news, Animal Adventures fans! The

second series of the hit wildlife documentary
is currently in production and will be
available on popular streaming services next
5 year. Host Joseph Tanner will again travel
around the world to find rare and unusual
animals in their natural habitats, raising
awareness of the threats facing them and the
need for humans to answer the call to protect
10 them from extinction.

[2] Since its pilot episode first appeared on NetFilms and other top streaming services
last October, Animal Adventures has quickly become the most-streamed wildlife series
across all platforms. Animal Adventures’ biggest draw is the wide range of fascinating
— and sometimes dangerous — animals that make an appearance on the show.
15 Tanner has introduced viewers to rattlesnakes in the United States, giant bats in the
Congo, hippos in South Africa and wolves in northern Canada — just to name a few
animals featured in the series. He has found himself in a few sticky situations, like
when he nearly got stung by a dangerous insect known as a ‘murder hornet’.
Fortunately, his safety crew is always just behind the scenes to keep him safe.
20
[3] Viewers also appreciate the show’s focus on wildlife conservation — from
examining the effects of melting ice on polar bears to the dangers of plastic pollution to
sharks and dolphins. In fact, the show’s most-watched episode is the one where Tanner
helps a team of Thai conservationists to free a leatherback sea turtle from an illegal
fishing net off the coast of Phuket.
25
[4] Animal Adventures has also received praise for the distant locations that it visits —
Antarctica, the Amazon, the Sahara, the Arctic, Madagascar, and so on. In fact, no
location is too remote for Tanner and his crew. In addition, viewers love the way
Tanner delivers the content in a natural, unscripted way. Critics have commended the
show’s ability to provide information without being tedious. This is due in part to the
30 exciting situations that Tanner finds himself in, and how he deals with those situations
with his hilarious sense of humour.

[5] Early press releases have hinted at what viewers can expect from the show’s second

series. In the first episode, Tanner will travel to India to document king cobras and film
one of them ‘dancing’ — i.e. when the snake’s handler plays a song on a flute and gets
35 the snake to sway and move in time with the music. In another episode, he will journey
to the depths of the eastern Pacific Ocean in a mini-submarine to film Humboldt
squids — very large, aggressive meat-eating squids that have only appeared on film a
handful of times. Another episode will see Tanner travel to northern Canada to
document grizzly bears and examine the causes behind the habitat loss threatening the
40 species.

[6] Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Animal Adventures’ success is that the show
has demonstrated to viewers that documentaries can be informative and entertaining
at the same time. Screentime magazine’s Chris Robbins sums it up best: ‘Animal
Adventures pulls off an extremely rare feat for a wildlife documentary series — being
45 able to teach people about animals in such an exciting and engaging way that they
totally forget they’re learning.’ Critics seem to agree. Animal Adventures has won
several prestigious awards, and has sold its broadcasting rights to sixteen countries
around the world.

You are doing a class presentation on online shopping. You found a blog entry to help you
with the project.

Buyer beware! flydragon. Shutterstock

Posted by Rachel Chow on 11th May 20 _ _

[1] I’ve had problems with online shopping before,

but nothing like what I experienced recently.
Last month, I bought a cotton jacket from an online
5 clothing company. Usually if there’s a problem with
clothes I buy online, it’s to do with the size. When
the jacket arrived, the size was fine but the material
felt rough and was obviously not cotton. The colour
was faded, not bright blue like in the website photo.
10 What’s more, it was missing a pocket.

[2] Did I try to get a refund? You bet I did! I called the company, but I was put on hold for
an hour. When a representative eventually came on, the line got disconnected! I had to
go through the whole process again. Another hour later, I finally spoke to another
representative. He quickly informed me that the jacket didn’t qualify for a refund.
15 Unbelievable!

[3] The next day, I decided to make an official complaint. I called again, but the number
was no longer in service. Doing some research online, I discovered that the same thing
had happened to lots of other people. It turns out there are many dishonest companies,
like this one, that scam people. They advertise high-end products on social media for a
20 few months, sell as many products as possible, and then disappear after shipping out
poor quality copies to customers.

[4] I’ve learnt a valuable lesson from this. I’m never going to buy anything from an
unknown online source again. From now on, I’ll be smarter by researching the company
first. Don’t let this kind of thing happen to you!

[5] Suzie
Fortunately, I’ve never had a problem shopping online (besides shipping delays). I love
having endless products at my fingertips. But you’re right — you need to be smart about
it! I always read product reviews before buying things online.

30 [6] Thomas
I never shop online because I like to support local businesses. Lately many shops in my
neighbourhood have closed down. The streets feel emptier now. For me, interacting with
people in a shop is better than scrolling through pictures on a screen by myself.
