A compressor of the refrigerating plant serves
to take agent vapor from the evaporator, to
compress it and deliver it to the condenser.
There are different types of compressors:
displacement, screw, rotary and centrifugal
compressors.
The compressor may be a twin-cylinder, a
triple-cylinder and multi-cylinder. In either case it is in all essential particulars
similar to the displacement type shown in figure below.
The suction strainer is located in the square box which is cast on the rear end of the
cylinder block. A magnet is fitted inside the strainer basket to assist in collecting
any metallic fragments which may enter. Both delivery and suction valves are
mounted on the valve plate, the delivery valves on the upper side and the suction
valves on the under side. The delivery port is on the side of the cylinder block.

1. Write the topic Bunkering Operations
Bunkering operation refers to the process of supplying fuel to ships,
typically in the form of marine fuels such as fuel oil or marine diesel. This
operation is crucial for the maritime industry as ships require fuel to operate their
engines and propulsion systems. Bunkering can take place at sea or in port, and it
involves the transfer of large quantities of fuel from the bunker barge or tanker to
the ship.
Here are key aspects related to bunkering operations:
Types of Bunkers:
 Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO): This is a thick and viscous fuel that is commonly
used in large, ocean-going vessels.
 Marine Diesel Oil (MDO): A lighter and cleaner alternative to HFO,
often used in smaller ships or those operating in ecologically sensitive areas.
 Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG): With the rising focus on environmental
sustainability, LNG is gaining popularity as a cleaner fuel option.
Bunker Barges and Tankers:
 Bunker Barges: These are specialized vessels designed for the purpose of
transporting and delivering fuel to other ships. They are equipped with pumping
systems and storage tanks.
 Tankers: In some cases, larger ships, such as oil tankers, can also provide
bunkering services.
Safety Considerations:
 Bunkering operations involve the transfer of flammable and potentially
hazardous materials. Strict safety protocols are in place to prevent accidents, spills,
or fires.
 Crew members involved in bunkering must be well-trained, and
equipment should meet international safety standards.
Regulations and Compliance:
 The International Maritime Organization (IMO) sets global standards for
bunkering operations to ensure safety, environmental protection, and efficiency.

3
 Bunkering operations must comply with regulations such as the
International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).
Bunkering operations are an integral part of the maritime industry, and as
the industry evolves, there is a continuous effort to make these operations safer,
more efficient, and environmentally friendly.
