A Rainy Day
A rainy day is the day when it rains all day long. We call it a rainy day. On such
a day, the sky remains cloudy. The sun is not seen at all. The day looks dull and
gloomy. Sometimes, it rains heavily and sometimes it drizzles. Often thunder is
heard in the sky. Birds are hardly seen to fly. They keep standing on the branches
of trees in the midst of leaves. Cattle keep standing in their sheds. People have
to remain indoors. The roads become almost muddy and desolate. One cannot move from
one place to another easily. One does not generally come out unless compelled.
Rainwater comes into the huts of the poor. They suffer much. They cannot go out to
earn their daily bread and remain starved. A rainy day is a gala day for rich
people. They stay at home and eat different kinds of delicious dishes. It is a
great joy to the students. Because classes are not held on that day. They feel
elated with the chance to play and gossip on a rainy day. Some people then spend
time in gossiping, playing at cards, singing or hearing songs. A rainy day is very
enjoyable for the children. They get very excited and play in the field on such a
day. A rainy day bears a great appeal and attraction for the poets. They get
thrilled at incessant rain. They enjoy it greatly. It gives rise to such an
excitement and pleasure among them that they get absorbed in an imaginary world and
compose poems. A rainy day is most pleasant to me. When it rains heavily. I enjoy
it greatly. On a rainy day, I sit beside the window of my room and enjoy the
harmonious sound of rain. Sometimes, I get absorbed in imagination. After all, a
rainy day gives us both joy and sorrow. It comes to different classes of people in
different ways.

Water Pollution
Water pollution is a major health hazard. Water pollution means contamination of
surface and drinking water to the extent that they are harmful to use. Pure water
is essential for health. We cannot live a single day without water. It is the main
element of our body. So, water is known as life. Water is polluted in a variety of
ways. Chemical fertilizers and insecticides are used in the fields by the farmers.
Rain and floods wash away some of these chemicals and mix them with the water of
rivers, canáls and ponds. Besides these, mills and factories throw their waste into
rivers and canals and pollute water. Oil, food and human waste from boats, launches
and steamers get mixed with the water of rivers and canals. Unsanitary latrines
built on the banks of rivers and canals also contribute to water pollution.
Villagers throw dead bodies of animals in river and wash utensils and clothes in
pond and pollutes the water. A number of drains run into the rivers and canals.
These drains carry human waste and filth and let them fall into water. Polluted
water is in no way safe. The water filled with filth, dust and germs is in every
way harmful to human life. People get attacked with various waterborne diseases
after drinking polluted water such as cholera, dysentry, diarrhoea and even cancer.
To live a healthy life, we should take all out measures to minimize water
pollution. The first and foremost measure to minimize water pollution is proper
management of waste. Water can be purified by boiling it for twenty minutes.
Purification tablets can be used for this purpose. General people should be made
aware of the bad effects of polluted water. The government should not allow mills
and factories to discharge chemical waste in water indiscriminately. We should
always remember that pure water is essential for your life. Through proper
management of waste, we can get rid of water pollution.

Our national flag

Every free nation has a flag of its own. It is the symbol of independence and
sovereignty of a free country. Bangladesh achieved it's independence through 9
months long liberation war in 1971. As Bangladesh is a free country so she has got
a flag of her own. Her people feel proud of her flag because it means that we are
the citzens of a a free and sovereign country. It reminds us of the valiant
struggle of our freedom fighters to set the country free. The designer of our
national flag is Kamrul Hasan. Its shape is rectangular having a proportion of
10:6. It is of different sizes according to its use. There is a circle a bit side
of the middle. There are two colours. They are green and red. The green represents
the green fields of Bangladesh and is the symbol of the youth. The red is the
rising sun and the symbol of the sacrifices of the freedom fighters who gav their
lives to liberate the country. The flag is hoisted everyday on top of our important
government buildings and educational institutions. It is hoisted everywhere on the
occasions of the independence day and the victory day. The national flag is kept
half mast on the occasions of national mourning days. . We salute the national flag
and remember the supreme sacrifice of our freedom fighters. It is the duty of
every person to love and respect his country and its national flag. A nation that
undermines the dignity of its national flag, undermines the value of its national
independence and sovereignty. I feel very proud of my national flag because
whenever and wherever I see national flag it reminds me that I am a citizen of a
free country. I can uphold its honour by doing our national duties properly.

My childhood memories
Man is fond of turning back from the present to the past again and again.
Nothing is more pleasant to him than memories of his childhood. A man can not
remember everything that happened in his childhood. But certain
events are stored in the sub-conscious, mind. They sometime peep
through minds eye. My playground was at the bank of a river. In all the seasons
this river had great attraction for me. Whenever I was not at home, I could be
found on its bank. There would be other children also with me. We used to row on
the river, jump into it and swim in it. I was very fond of stealing mangoes,
liches, black berries and other fruits
in the company of friends in summer. There was a bush near our house. Hundreds of
birds made their nests in that bush. Sometimes I went there with other children.
During holidays when my mother went to sleep at noon, we went to play. There I
together with other children gathered pebbles. The next worth mentioning
experience was my first day at school. When I entered the school with my parents,
the children were enjoying themselves here and there. My heart began to beat fast
when I was taken to the Headmaster but his smiling face and gentle words put me at
ease. I was admitted into class I. The warmth with which my classmates received me
dispelled all my fears. My father got transferred in a town school and he moved to
the town immediately with all the members of the family. I was admitted into my
father's school. I felt that my school-fellows did not love me. They had no
bothering feeling for one another as we had in the village. There was no freedom,
no joy as we had in the village. However I gradually adjusted myself to town life.
I have now new friends and companions. But my heart aches for the happy childhood
days. Childhood is free from worries and has infinite capacity for enjoyment.
