SCIENCE OF READING
Description
As part of the MATATAG: Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa agenda, the Department of
Education takes a big step in revitalizing its program in Reading, Science and Technology and Math. In
response to this program, Supang National High School took its part by implementing the Science of
Reading in different subject areas. To make it possible, teachers went through lectures and workshops to
successfully guide them to teach and implement proper instructions in reading.
Objective
The implementation of the Science of Reading across learning areas imposed the purpose of
improving the learners’ reading competence for it is anchored on what is essential and what functions in
literacy instruction.
Outcomes
Science of Reading helped the learners in improving learners’ reading competence specifically on
Reading Comprehension where readers learn to make meaning on what they read. It provides them an
avenue to navigate a higher level of understanding across learning areas and have deeper appreciation of
their lessons.
