1 INTRODUCTION

Ato Yirga Kebede envisages the production of aggregate for the construction
industry. The location of the areas for reconnaissance is in Tigray regional
state, Mekelle city, Adihaki K/ketema, Tabia Debre Genet, Kushet Negadi,
specific location Known as ‘Adi Aboy Hmoy’’

The principal rock types used for gravel stone production are basalt,
limestone, sandstone, and slate. Of these, basalt, limestone, and sand stone
are the three main materials. Physical properties, such as durability,
strength, and the ability of the stone to hold a surface finish, are important in
the industry. Accordingly, Black limestone is the raw material that available
in project site.

The following work plan details about the black limestone reconnaissance
study at Adi haki k/ketema, Tabia Debre genet of Mekelle city. The work
plan includes objective, work program, schedule and budget of the minerals
under interest recognisance feasibility study. Therefore, this plan focuses on
conducting reconnaissance exploration on this wereda and bringing GPS
points (co-ordinates) of black limestone and ultimately developing the
occurrences into a mine.

2 Objective of the Work Program

The company Objectives are consistent across its projects and jurisdictions
in which it operates. The company employs modern and systematic
exploration and mining techniques coupled with obtaining a solid geological
understanding in order to rapidly identify previously unknown sand deposits.
Ultimately, developing that resource into an economically viable mine.

The scope of this work is to bring GPS points and observe the area for
further exploration survey and get approval from mineral and energy agency
of Tigray for the coordinates so that further geological studies to follow.

The major elements of the work program were as follows:

Reconnaissance exploration;
Out ling the black limestone occurrences
Delineating GPS points-coordinates
Checking infrastructures
Rough geological descriptions of the area

3 Description of the Area
3.1 Location and Accessibility

The location of the areas for reconnaissance is in Tigray régional state, at

Mekelle city. The site is located at south west of the city bordered with
Enderta wereda . Therefore, the targets selected for prospection can be
reached through all-weather gravel roads.

3.2 Climate

The region under interest has a relatively mild climate with annual
temperature ranging between 12.5°C to 19°C. The annual average rainfall is
650mm, with the majority of the rainfall coming in the month of July and
August. The driest months are December, January and February.

3.3 Physiography

Physiography of the areas sought to have the deposits have a variably

undulating and flat topography.

4 Methodology and Sources of Information

The reconnaissance work consists field visit, geological mapping, panning,
rock chip sampling. GPS points and observing the area were among the
main tools to do the reconnaissance survey. The aim of the reconnaissance
survey was to bring coordinates of the quarry deposits and submit to Tigray
mines and energy agency.

The data collected were marked and plotted by GPS, using this data
geological map will be produced. Later, this map will be scanned and
georeferenced in QGIS, to produce the final map of the area. Equipments
used at field to complete this work program were GPS, Freiberg Compass
and geological hammer.
