Rectifier Voltameter

• a type of voltmeter that uses a rectifier to

convert alternating current (AC) to direct
current (DC). This allows the voltmeter to be
used to measure both AC and DC voltages.
• There are two main types of rectifier
voltmeters:
• Half-wave rectifier voltmeters only rectify one
half of the AC waveform, resulting in a pulsating
DC waveform. This type of voltmeter is less
accurate than a full-wave rectifier voltmeter, but it
is simpler and less expensive.
• Full-wave rectifier voltmeters rectify both halves
of the AC waveform, resulting in a smoother DC
waveform. This type of voltmeter is more accurate
than a half-wave rectifier voltmeter, but it is more
complex and more expensive.

• V rms = V peak / √2.
• I rms = I m/ √2
• I m = I av / 0.637.
• I m = (V peak – V drop)/ total circuit resistance.
