Sosebee Senior Essay

“But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded.”

2 Chronicles 15:7. The meaning of this verse in the Bible is reiterating that your hard work and

persistence as a follower of the Lord will be rewarded. I have always held this verse close to my

heart, as it’s a reminder that through perseverance and determination, you will be fulfilled and

rewarded. This verse has brought motivation and encouragement throughout not only my high

school career, but my life.

I am Jalie Sosebee. I have been described as disciplined, confident, influential, and

empathetic. When I’m not in the church, you will probably find me playing basketball or getting

something to eat with friends. I am passionate about music and athletics, just as I always have

been.

I’m very excited to be graduating today, even though it was later than I had originally

hoped for. I wouldn’t have been able to get through my high school career if it weren’t for Miss

Joy, Miss Gaines, and Mr.Cook. Miss Joy was the person that I would get to school for; she

knew how much I resented going to class, but she also knew I could do better, and pushed me

to do just that. I wanted her to be proud of me. And I know she is. Miss Gaines helped me

speed through one of the longest courses here at Garza, U.S History, and taught me self-

discipline and work ethic. She was always so understanding when I was struggling or having an

off-day and found other ways to give me credit to finish the class. And lastly, Mr.cook; I never

actually had a class with Mr.Cook, but I got to know him through his participation in sports

during lunch. His fun and loving personality made me realize that sometimes, school didn’t have

to be that bad. He was always so proud when I finished a course and made sure I knew it. For

these teachers especially, and all the teachers at Garza I had the pleasure of knowing, I am

incredibly grateful for. The love and support the teachers here at Garza put into their students is

apparent. They are here to help you, and make sure you, as a student, know that. I would also

like to thank my parents for pushing me to do better, and to be better, in all aspects of life. I

thank them for understanding that previous schools weren’t working for me, and allowing me the

opportunity to come to a place that DID work. My parents have always been my firm foundation;

and even if they don’t know, or see it, I appreciate all the work they’ve put into me.

From my time here at Garza, I will be moving on to the ASL Interpreting program at ACC

in the fall. Before then, I will be picking up a second part-time job, and be working full time

hours, as this is an opportunity to work more than ever before. I’m very excited to see what

more is out there and what God’s plan for me will be.

Reflecting back on the quote mentioned before, “But you, take courage! Do not let your

hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded.” 2 Chronicles 15:7. I am in the season of

reward. I have worked hard, and I see it being worthwhile, fulfilling, and recognized.
