Objective: The objective of this experiment is to design and build a protective

structure that will prevent an egg from breaking when it is tossed
above the air.
Materials: 1. Egg
2. Assorted building materials (e.g., paper, cardboard, plastics,
straws, sticks, rubber bands, tape)
Procedure: Explain the challenge: Briefly explain the challenge to the
students. Their the task is to design and build a protective
structure that will safely cradle an egg and prevent it from
breaking when tossed or dropped from a certain height.
Design and build: Allow students to brainstorm, design, and build
their protective structures using assorted building materials.
Encourage them to be creative and think about how different
materials and structures can absorb shock and protect the egg.
Additional task: IT specialization: The students will create a step-by-step guide
on how they built the structure that will safely cradle the egg and
prevent it from breaking.
Engineering specialization: The students will sketch their
designs on the graph paper, taking care to include measurements
and labels. They should consider how they plan to protect the
egg, the shape and structure of the enclosure, and any shock-
absorbing components. Thus, it should include written details on
this matter.
