Topic: eSports in the Philippines


Key Concepts: Sociology, Social Groups, Techonological and Cultural Evolution

Introduction:

eSports in the Philippines (Texts displayed with a person walking in slow motion with intro music in
the background)

Scene 1:

eSports is one of the fastest growing industries in the Philippines. One of the most popular scenes
amongst the youth. Coming from a physical scene, it has evolved into being an online thing.

(Show host)

Scene 2:

Throughout the years, sports have been the dominant industry carrying the ‘Athlete’ name. But now, it
can also be used to Gamers in which they are called ‘Electronic Athletes’ or ‘Digital Athletes’

(For sports, show a clip of any sport, then for Gamers, show a clip of a pro team then put a text saying
‘Electronic Athletes or Digital Athletes’ to emphasize)

Scene 3:

The eSports scene in the Philippines started during the 2000’s with cybercafés like this sprouting in
different areas.

(Show host inside a gaming café and showing the surroundings.)

Scene 4:

Filipinos had its fascination with these cybercafés and started going in them. Then started the local
tournaments with a very small prize pool due to the situation it was in.
(First, show the front of a computer shop, then show an example of a local gaming tournament back
in 2000’s)

Scene 5:

It continued being in that situation until 2003 when Ronald Robins formed his own DOTA 2 team called
Mineski. TNC then followed and created their own team called TNC Predators.

(Show the first team of Mineski alongside the founder. Then show the current team od TNC Predators)

Scene 6:

After forming their own teams, Mineski and TNC then opened their own Gaming Cafés where gamers
can enhance their skill in their game of choice.

(Show a branch of TNC’s gaming café)

Scene 7:

These two were responsible for getting the Philippines in the eSports scene.

(Show host)

Scene 8:

At first, DOTA 2 and League of Legends were the most common games but it has since spread to CSGO,
PUBG, Apex Legends and even in Mobile with Mobile Legends.

(Show the evolution of what games were popular starting from DOTA 2 up to the mobile games)

Scene 9:

Streaming has also been the reason for eSports rising popularity. Notable streamers include Alodia
Gosiengfiao streaming different games, Akosi Dogie streaming Mobile Legends, Maggiekarp streaming
Apex Legends, and Rebengga and Raux streaming League of Legends.

(Show the role of streaming to eSports. Also show some famous Filipino streamers.)

Scene 10:

With eSports still continuing with its growth, I am looking forward on how far eSports could go.
