BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The academic performance of students is a critical aspect of the


educational system, as it directly impacts the future of the learners and
the society they will serve. This study focuses on the Grade 10
Makabansa students' low academic performance during the first
quarter of the School Year 2023-2024. The Makabansa curriculum,
designed to foster patriotism and nationalism among students, has
been observed to have a decline in academic performance. This
research aims to identify the causes of this decline and propose
potential solutions.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM


The problem that this study addresses is the low academic performance
of Grade 10 Makabansa students in the first quarter of SY 2023-2024.
The study seeks to answer the following questions:

- What are the factors contributing to the low academic performance of


these students?
- How do these factors affect the students' learning process?
- What measures can be taken to improve the academic performance of
these students?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study is significant as it aims to improve the academic


performance of Grade 10 Makabansa students. The findings of this
study will be beneficial to the students, teachers, parents, and the
school administration. It will provide insights into the challenges faced
by the students and suggest ways to overcome them.

ASSUMPTION OF THE STUDY


The study will use a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and
qualitative research methods. Surveys and interviews will be conducted to
gather data from students, teachers, and parents. The data will be analyzed
using statistical tools to identify the causes of low academic performance.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY


This study is limited to the Grade 10 Makabansa students of the first quarter of
SY 2023-2024. The research will focus on identifying the causes of low
academic performance and proposing solutions. However, the effectiveness of
these solutions will not be part of this study.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
1. Causes: This refers to the factors or conditions that lead to a particular
outcome. In this context, it refers to the reasons behind the low academic
performance of Grade 10 Makabansa.

2. Low Academic Performance: This term refers to the situation where


students are not meeting the expected educational standards or benchmarks. It
could be reflected in low grades, poor understanding of the subject matter, or
difficulty in keeping up with the coursework.

3. Grade 10 Makabansa: This seems to be a specific group or class of students.


"Makabansa" is a Filipino term that translates to "patriotic" in English. It might
be the name of a class or a group of students in the 10th grade.

4. First Quarter, SY 2023-2024: This refers to the first quarter of the School
Year 2023-2024. In most educational systems, the academic year is divided
into quarters or semesters. The first quarter usually covers the beginning of the
school year until mid-fall.

5. Research: This is a systematic investigation into and study of materials and


sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions. In this context, it
refers to the process of studying and understanding the causes of low academic
performance among the Grade 10 Makabansa students in the first quarter of
