Abstract
This pre-dissertation project delves into the integration of blockchain, artificial
intelligence (AI), and Internet of Things (IoT) devices within the healthcare domain.
The emphasis is on the transformative capabilities of this integration, specifically
targeting the real-time data collection functions of IoT devices, particularly
smartwatches. The data collected is securely transmitted through a blockchain
network, utilizing smart contracts to automate various health-related transactions. The
incorporation of AI algorithms facilitates the analysis of this data, offering predictive
insights that contribute to the enhancement of patient care quality. The project critically
reviews existing literature, conducts comparisons among different frameworks, and
explores potential solutions to anticipated challenges. This groundwork is vital, setting
the foundation for an extensive and comprehensive dissertation that will further
explore the intricacies and potential advancements in the integration of blockchain, AI,
and IoT within the healthcare sector.

The burgeoning transition of the healthcare industry into the digital realm has led to an
unprecedented accumulation of patient data. This digital transformation, while
beneficial, raises significant concerns about the security and integrity of healthcare
records. Blockchain technology emerges as a promising solution to address these
challenges, offering a secure, immutable, and cohesive approach to managing
healthcare information. The increasing interest and exploration of blockchain
applications in healthcare underscore its potential as a transformative tool for data
security and privacy.
The literature surrounding the integration of blockchain technology into the healthcare
sector reveals a burgeoning field of research and exploration. As the healthcare industry
transitions toward a digital paradigm, addressing concerns related to data security,
privacy, and interoperability has become paramount. Blockchain technology, with its
decentralized and tamper-resistant nature, has emerged as a promising solution to
mitigate these challenges.
The incorporation of blockchain technology into the healthcare supply chain signifies a
revolutionary advancement in ensuring the authenticity and traceability of
pharmaceuticals. Blockchain's decentralized ledger addresses challenges associated
with counterfeit drugs, providing an alternative approach to streamline the supply
chain. This application promises to enhance the integrity of transactions, offering a
secure framework that mitigates challenges in healthcare and drug distribution. The
potential impact extends to improving the quality of healthcare services and ensuring
patient safety. Blockchain in the healthcare supply chain emerges as a pivotal solution
to longstanding issues, fostering transparency and reliability in pharmaceutical
transactions.
Blockchain in Internet of Medical Things (IoMT)
The integration of blockchain technology into the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT)
represents a revolutionary approach to securing and managing data generated by
medical devices. Blockchain's decentralized structure and cryptographic mechanisms
provide a secure framework for IoMT, addressing concerns related to the security and
privacy of medical data. This application ensures the integrity of health-related data,
protecting it from unauthorized access and tampering. Blockchain in IoMT promises to
enhance the overall security and reliability of medical devices, fostering a trustworthy
environment for the deployment of interconnected medical technologies. This
innovative solution contributes to the advancement of secure and efficient healthcare
practices.
The synergy between blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare marks a
transformative collaboration with potential implications for diagnostics, patient care,
and data security. Blockchain's transparent and secure ledger, coupled with AI's
analytical prowess, offers a robust framework to enhance the trustworthiness of AI-
generated insights in medical applications. The intersection of these technologies holds
promise in revolutionizing healthcare delivery, improving data accuracy, reducing costs,
and ensuring the privacy of sensitive medical information. This dynamic partnership
not only streamlines data management but also paves the way for innovative solutions,
contributing to a more efficient and secure healthcare ecosystem.
