Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC)

Agenda B: Countering Violent Extremism

The kingdom of Denmark is committed to Global Peace and security and believes that Violent
Terrorism is one of the main factors for the constant threat to Global Security. Being committed
to equal rights for all means the kingdom of Denmark is ready for comprehensive dialogue and
action to be taken against the source of violent extremism in Denmark, In the European Union,
and all over the world.

The Kingdom of Denmark considers two main ways of countering violent extremism, the first
being countering the spread of violent thinking regionally. With the age of the internet it is much
easier for information and types of thinking to spread, Denmark aims to curb the spread of this
violent thinking using effective Social Services and Education and more to curb the need for
violent thinking, as many who enter the circle of Violent Extremism join due to being in a weak
state because of other problems, Thus Social services and Education will stop the problems that
drive people into the circle of Violent Extremism from happening in the first place.

The second route to countering Violent Extremism is through directly cutting it off at the source.
In Europe many incidents related to Violent Extremism stem from issues from other countries
that are unstable such as Iraq, Syria, Libya, Mali and more. Cutting off extremist thinking in
these areas directly is an effective way of curbing violent extremism as it is not exported to other
countries anymore. The Kingdom of Denmark also recognizes that in curbing violent extremism,
a thorough job must be done, otherwise violent extremism and thinking comes out soon after
being destroyed, and a cycle continues wasting time and resources.

The Kingdom of Denmark established the Danish Center for prevention of Extremism in 2017 to
elaborate on social planning and educational planning, while also cracking down on previous
extremism within the nation, in 2021 there were many people caught for contributing to Violent
Extremism, whether it be contributing to terrorist groups or planning terrorist attacks. The
Kingdom of Denmark has actively participated and partly lead missions against Terrorism in
Mali, Somalia, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and more. Denmark worked with many UN member
states to curb violent Extremism by using the “Global Counterterrorism strategy” of the United
Nations and by participating in forums such as the Global Counterterrorism Forum, NATO, the
Council of Europe, INTERPOL and more. Denmark has provided over 22 million USD to the
global community for engagement and resilience funds.

The Kingdom of Denmark plans to continue working with UN member states to curb Violent
Extremism and Extremist thinking Globally and Reigonally. And hopes to continue bringing
many over to the side of Peace and Justice.
