RATIONALE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL

The Science & Technology and Engineering Program offers

opportunities for the students to access advance science education in the
various Add-On subjects. One Add-On subject that is offered in Cagayan
National High School is Biotechnology. Due to emergent issues and
concerns specifically on the academic achievement of the learners, teachers
initiate to develop instructional materials.

The result of the mastery level for the School year 2022-2023 showed
low mastery on the topic on cell cycle and cell division which yielded values
ranging from 30-63 percent (see attachment).

Identified as one of the least mastered, Its inherent complexity often

poses challenges for learners to grasp the intricate mechanisms involved in
cell growth, replication, and division. Hence, the creation of comprehensive
instructional materials becomes imperative to address this knowledge gap
and support students in overcoming these difficulties.

Given that the cell cycle and cell division are concepts that students
commonly struggle to comprehend, the development of instructional
materials takes on an even more pivotal role. Breaking down these complex
processes into manageable components becomes a primary objective.
Furthermore, these instructional materials don't solely aim at theoretical
understanding but also emphasize practical applications. Integrating real-
world examples and contexts not only motivates students but also
underscores the relevance of the cell cycle and division in various scientific
disciplines, fostering a deeper appreciation and comprehension of the
subject.
