Denim and its Sustainability in Future

In today’s world, protection of the environment is the only way left for the survival. In order to make this
happen we have to adopt eco-friendly ways of producing products. Denim should also be one of them.
More than 2 Billion jeans are sold annually in the world. Jeans are producing a lot of waste in the
environment. Fashion Industries are focusing or making 100 percent organic denim which would be
sustainable for the environment as well. Certain companies have adopted recycling ways of producing
denim. Denim also causes a lot of pollution which is affecting our environment. Chemicals are required
to dye the denim which is disposed in the water in developing countries. For Example Synthetic Indigo,
Dyes and Potassium Permanganate are used to make the denim. These chemicals are causing a lot of
water pollution. Workers are affected largely in making the jeans which is affecting their health. G Star
Raw, Tommy Hilfiger, Levis and Candiani etc. had adopted ways to produce organic denim. Raising
awareness among the people and industries are necessary for a sustainable environment.

Jeans Recycling Guidelines have been made by the authorities whom are to be followed while making
the products. Almost 20 brands are following the Jeans Recycling Guidelines to produce organic denim
in 2021. Recycling of chemicals is done by using enzymes and adopting organic reactants like natural
Indigo rather than using synthetic products. It is upon us to protect the environment in which we live
and make it sustainable for a healthy life in the near future.
