Genre Characteristics
• Genre characteristics relate to the typical stereotypes and different
things in a music video for example in in da club by 50 cent there is
the usual characteristics of a Rap song with gold chains in a large
party with drinks etc.
Relationship between lyrics and visuals
• This is where the lyrics can either relate to the music video of directly
contrast from it. In the music video I chose there is some relation
such as when 50 cent says you can find me in da club it cuts to a
scene with him walking into a club but then it directly goes against
the lyrics with him being in a lab following the storyline within the
music video
Relationship within music and visuals
• This is when the tone and atmosphere fit the music. So with in dal
club this would fit with when 50 cent is in the club but not when he is
in the lab/gym.
Demands of the record label
• The demands of the record label is a reference to the actual record
label in the music video. It isn’t that clear with in da club so the
demands could be the appearances in the music video such as
Eminem and dr dre who owns the record label death row records
Artist Iconography
• This is where the artist is dressed in a particular way to give them a
distinctive and recognizable appearance this could be from costume
to hair styles
Voyeurism
• These are references of sexual treatment of the women body as even
today it does still ‘sell’ well in the music industry. In the music video in
dal club this is shown quite well as when nurses are shown they are in
quite ’skimpy’ outfits and then in the club all of the girls are in
revealing clothes
Intertextuality
• This is references to other pieces of media like film. Some references
would be with other artists appearing like the Eminem's without me
music video but also a reference to Tupac and Dr Dre
