CHALLENGE #7:

THE INFLUENCE CHALLENGE: LEADING OTHERS BEYOND YOUR POSITION IS NOT EASY.
Having heard and read about the previous six challenges, perhaps you felt that their impact on you is
minimal. If so, you can consider yourself fortunate. Why?- The in uence challenge, does not escape
anyone.
Leadership is in uence, and without position and the ability to persuade orders, people will not
follow. The only solution to the in uence challenge is to become the kind of leader other people want to
follow.
What kind of leader would that be? People follow leaders who care, leaders with characters, who are
competent, approachable, and committed.
These kinds of leaders that care about their people, establish their character as trustworthy, competent
e.t.c .
The qualities of an in uencer as:
• INTERGRITY- build relationship on trust.
• NURTURING- caring about people as individuals.
• FAITH- believes in people.
• LISTENING- values what others have to say.
• UNDERSTANDING- sees from their point of view.
• ENLARGING- helps others become bigger.
• NAVIGATING- assists others through di culties.
• CONNECTING-initiates a positive relationship.
• EMPOWERING- gives them the power to lead.

When leaders work hard to achieve these qualities, they will exert in uence, one of the requirements of
being a good 360-Degree Leader.
The whole secret is to think in uence, not position.
