Cinquain
A cinquain is a five-line poem. It can be about anything. Choose a topic.
An animal, the weather, and a celebration are all ideas to consider.

Haiku
A haiku is a type of poem from Japan. Haiku poems have three lines
and a total of 17 syllables. The first and third lines of the poem have five
syllables each. The middle line has seven syllables. Usually, a haiku does
not rhyme.
Think about a particular object, topic, or theme, like the weather, the sea,
an animal, etc. Then, jot down different adjectives about your chosen
object, topic, or theme.

Sensory Poem

Choose somewhere you have been or something that is around you right
now. Describe it using your five senses and your imagination. No rhymes
are needed.

Shape Poem
Choose an object that you can draw an outline of like a tree, the moon,
a cat, or a dog. Think of all the words you can use to describe what you
chose. Draw the object’s outline, and put your words inside the shape of the
object. An example is:

Limerick
Limericks are five-line poems with a specific format. Lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyme
with each other, and lines 3 and 4 rhyme. They have a specific rhythm
pattern. Limericks are usually silly and funny.
Here is an example:
There once was a girl named Sue.
Who lived with her mom in a zoo.
She went for a walk,
She found some chalk.
And then she drew on her shoe.

Color Poems
Choose a color you love. Now think of all the items that are that color. How
does that color make you feel? Turn those words into a poem.

Yellow is happiness and joy.
