2. MINIMUM CONDUCTOR SIZING CALCULATION
In an earthing system, the conductor should be able to withstand mechanical damages &
fusing temperafi.rre as per fault current magnitude. In this report, the minimum conductor
sizing calculation has been done using SES Ampacity Tool of CDEGS Software.
considering the RMS fault current, fault duration & decrement factor at 45oC ambient
temperature as per Pafrra location-
At 25 KA al LT and 17.5 KA at HT, RMS fault current, I sec for LT and 3sec for HT
frult duration and considering decrement factor as l, the minimum conductor sizing for
Copper Bonded Tensile Steel Material is as mentioned below-
Proposed Size
Referring table 2.1, considering the conductor size recommended in the tender that is
23 mm Copper Bonded Tensile Steel rods.
The corrosion allowance should be considered as per the soil resistivity value of the
location as mentioned in IS 3043:2018, Table 5. (Refer Figure. 2.1)

3.3. Chronolory of Modelled Earthing Grid
i. The horizontal earthing grid conductor is made of Copper Bonded Tensile Steel
mderial. The diameter of the conductor is considered as 23 mm as per Section -2
ofthis report.
ii. The vertical earthing rods are of Copper Bonded Tensile Steel material. The
diameter of the vertical rods is considered as 23mm dia.
iii. The depth ofthe Earthing grid is considered as I meter from the road level.
iv. Grid Size is 24 x 9 meter.
v. Total 30 rods are used for earth mat
vi. The diameter of bore for Earth Enhmcement Compound in the pit is of 2COmm
with 3m length, which is 85Kg per pit. (For maintenance fue earthing system)

3.5. Touch & Step Potential Criteria as per IS 3043:2018
The safety of a person depends on preventing the critical amount of shock energy from
being absorbed before the fault is cleared and the system de-energized. The maximum
driving voltage of any accidental circuit should not exceed the limits defined as follows
by IS 3043:2018.

3.16. Grid GPR and Grid Resistance
Table 3.3 shows the computed grid GPR and the computed gnd resistance (as
reported by SES Result Viewer). The obtained value of grid resistance is the
combined resistance value of Hoizontal earth mat conductor & Vertical earthing rod
of body pits. The frequency considered is 50 FIz :rs per power supply frequency in
India.

2. MINIMUM CONDUCTOR SIZING CALCULATION
In an earthing system, the conductor should be able to withstand mechanical damages &
fusing temperafure as per fault current magnitude. In this report, the minimum conductor
sizing calculation has been done using SES Ampacity Tool of GDEGS Software,
considering the RMS fault curren! fault duration & decrement factor at 45"C ambient
temperature as per Patna location.
At 25 KA at LT and 17.5 KA at HT, RMS fault currenf I sec for LT and 3sec for HT
fault duration and considering decrement factor as l, the minimum conductor sizing for
Copper Bonded Tensile Steel Material is as mentioned below-
Referring table 2.1, considering the conductor size recommended in the tender that is
23 mm Copper Bonded Tensile Steel rods.
The corrosion allowance should be considered as per the soil resistivity value of the
location as mentioned in IS 3043:2018, Table 5. (Refer Figure. 2.1)

((-/orse I3.6.I)
As per CDEGS Calculation soil resistivity considered, lsyo corrosion allowance (reference
from IS 3043:2018, Table 5) has been considered on minimum conductor size achieved by
the calculation through CDEGS software. But as per technical specification the considered
size is 23 mm dia. Copper Bonded Tensile Steel.
Hence, the considered sizes are 23mm dia., Copper Bonded Tensile Steel for Horizontal
conductor & Vertical Rod.

3.3. Chronology of Modelled Earthing Grid
i. The horizontal earthing grid conductor is made of Copper Bonded Tensile Steel
material. The diameter of the conductor is considered as 23 mm as per Section -2
of this report.
ii. The vertical earthing rods are of Copper Bonded Tensile Steel material. The
diameter of the vertical rods is considered as 23mm dia.
iii. The depth of the Earthing grid is considered as I meter from the road level.
iv. Grid Size is 24 x 6 meter.
v. Total l0 rods are used for earth mat.
vi. The diameter of bore for Earth Enhancement Compound in the pit is of 200mm
with 3m length, which is 85Kg per pit. (For maintenance free earthing system)
