POSITION: Supine with shoulder abducted between 80 - 120˚, forward flexed up to 20˚ and
laterally rotated 30˚
EXAMINER: Stabilize elbow and distal humerus ; grasp humeral head and lift it forward
Examiner draws the humerus forward
(+) SIGN: reproduction of symptoms INDICATION: Anterior Instability
(+) SIGN: hears a clunk (click) INDICATION: Anterior Labral Tear

CRANK TEST
o POSITION: Supine
o EXAMINER: abducts the arm to 90˚ and laterally rotates the patient’s shoulder slowly.
By placing the hand under the GH joint to act as a fulcrum
o (+) SIGN: Pain and apprehension INDICATION: Traumatic Instability
RELOCATION TEST
o If patient experience apprehension during ER, examiner places firm hand over the
anterior shoulder, increasing shoulder stability
o Examiner again applies an ER to the shoulder
o Apply a mild anterior-directed force to the posterior humeral head when in the test
position to see if apprehension or pain increases
o (+) SIGN: Apprehension during 1st ER INDICATION: Anterior instability of GH Joint
