Topic: Developing a MOOC course for UTEC's students: Translation technique

INTRODUCTION

Today's globalized world demands increased translation skills to communicate with people from
various parts of the world. Therefore, the demand for online courses on translation techniques
has increased significantly in recent years. In this sense, online courses are an attractive choice
for students since they allow them to learn from anywhere and at any time. This paper presents a
proposal for the creation of an online course on translation techniques, which is based on earlier
research on training needs in this field. The course method will focus on the combination of
theory and practice, including practical activities to improve understanding and application of
translation techniques. Besides, Examples and case studies will be presented to contextualize and
apply the techniques effectively. This proposal aims to satisfy the current demand for training in
translation techniques and supply an effective and quality online educational experience.
BACKGROUND

Translation is a fundamental activity in today's world, since companies, organizations and people
need to communicate with individuals from different countries and cultures. Translation training
has become more important in recent years due to the increasing demand for translation services
around the world (Kelly & Swanson, 2019).

In this context, online translation courses have experienced a significant increase in popularity
due to the flexibility and accessibility they offer to students (Caffrey, Chiu & Arons, 2020).
Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a further increase in the demand for online
translation courses, as people have been forced to work and study from their homes (Puga,
2021).

Translation training has traditionally focused on theory and practice, and online translation
courses are no different. Online courses can offer an effective mix of theory and practice, with
digital tools and hands-on activities allowing students to improve their understanding and
application of translation techniques (Kelly & Swanson, 2019).
PROJECT OUTLINE

Objectives: The main objective of the project is to create an online course on translation that
provides students with an in-depth understanding of translation theory and practice. The course
should be accessible and flexible, offering a mix of theory and practice to help students develop
practical and relevant translation skills.

Duration: The virtual course on translation should last around 12 weeks. Each week will include
a series of modules and activities designed to cover a specific topic in translation.

Target Audience: The course is intended for students who are interested in translation, such as
those who want to start a career in the field of translation or those who want to improve their
existing translation skills. The course will focus on beginner to intermediate level students.

Course content: The course content will include an introduction to translation theory, technical
translation, localization, translation project management, the use of translation tools, among

As a group we are going to create a MOOC course about translation technique, while we are
working on this project our stakeholder will have access to this MOOC course to look and let
us know what we are doing on the platform is right or wrong and how it can be improved, in
this sense his/her help and advice will a tremendous impact at the end of the creation of this
MOOC course. This project will be put in place to oversee the progress, the project manager
will lead the delivery and will report monthly to the project stakeholder.

b. User-Friendly Delivery

When our MOOC course is complete, before starting the course, users will have access to
various kinds of tutorials to familiarize them with the course and make them feel the course
more friendly.

c. Continuous Improvement

There will be a section for our users to leave their reviews or comments on the improvements
that we as a group could make to our course to grow and be one of the best MOOC out there.
