We use subject questions to ask about the subject of a
sentence. Let's look at some examples:
My grandmother called my mom last night.
When we ask about “My grandmother” we are asking about the SUBJECT.
Who called my mom last night?  NO auxiliary

When we ask about “My mom” we’re asking about the OBJECT.
Who did my grandmother call last night?  auxiliary DID

We can make questions about people or things. For example:


An accident happened this morning.
What happened this morning?
In groups, create a subject or other question for the
sentences.
Smoking may cause cancer.
The earthquake damaged my house.
Dictionaries can help students understand better.
Many countries provide visas to foreigners.
Insurance costs $100 per month.
Alyssa hired Joe for the job.
