The Right Fit

Person-Organization Fit Versus Person-Job Fit

Where does one fit into the hierarchy of the stressful world of employment? What role

does a person fill in an organization? The first step in making an informed decision about where

to seek employment is to determine what personal competencies best turn the cogs of the

perpetual wheel of that business. The next step in the job-seeking process is determining if one

seeks a person-organization fit or a person-job fit. The person-organization fit focuses on a

match of the values of the organization and the individual. In contrast, the person-job fit

concentrates on job characteristics that are “"aligned with employees’ employees' personalities,

motivations, and abilities” " (T.A. Scandura, 2022, p.45).

Organization Choice and How I Fit

After carefully researching various companies, I have decided that Buc-ee’s ee's is the

company that best meets my expectations. Buc-ee’s ee's grew into a multifaceted company

through the hard work and determination of a third-generation general mercantile and gas station

owner. My work ethic, experience, and customer appreciation match the organizational fit with

the values and standards Buc-ee’s haBuc-ee's values and standards for their employees and

customers. The first facet of the company that is held in high esteem and coincides with my firm

belief that you get what you pay for is the decision to pay their employees well. Paying above-

average wages attracts a more dedicated team of skilled employees. The second core value that

resonates with me is valuing their customer and offering them what they need at a fair price (M.

Locker,2022). Buc-ee’s ee's takes pride in advertising the cleanest restrooms in America and

cheap ice. These staples attract a loyal customer base and allow the company to grow. My core

values strongly align with this organization. Buc-ee’s ee's will provide a work environment that

is consistent with my values.

Job Position

The ideal position I would apply for within this organization is general manager. This

would be a good personal- fit for me because of my years of experience, including supervisory

and management skills. I have worked in all positions within the retail business, including

stocking, bussing tables, waiting tables, taking orders, and running various point-of-sale systems.

I ordered and kept different companies stocked with all essential items. I have interacted with the

public daily and can stand 12-14 hours per day. I am used to working under pressure and

completing tasks promptly. I have experience of supervising staff in the kitchen and the front of

the store. My unique, well-rounded experience makes me a great choice because I can relate to

all aspects of the business from an employee standpoint and a from the role of

supervisorsupervisor role.

Personality Traits

Researchers have developed a list of five factors that summarize personality. These

include openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism (T.A.

Scandura, 2022, p.35). It is essential to look at these areas as they indicate how effective one will

be regarding job performance. It implies the person's willingness to accept individual ideas and

their role within the team concept. A vital factor to consider when hiring a person in a supervisor

position is personality type. A person with a type A personality can be competitive and hostile,

which can cause issues with more timid employees as bullying can occur. A person with a type B

personality is more easygoing and relaxed, providing an excellent opportunity for training

moments created due to errors. A type C personality has a blend of positive and negative

characteristics that focuses on being the nice guy and not creating stress or drama. It would be

difficult for a person with a type D personality to be in a supervisor role because of their toxic

view of themselves and the world around them.

Risk-taking is an integral part of the business. Studies have shown that people take fewer

risks as they get older. Deviance from this is when one faces hardships. Risk-taking continues to

be high under these circumstances (T.A. Scandura, 2022, p.43). Self-monitoring is imperative in

a supervisory position. The things one does when no one is watching and alone are just as crucial

as those viewed by people or on camera. An excellent supervisor always exemplifies appropriate

actions and reactions.

The emergence of psychological capital has been a remarkable tool in empowering and

engaging employees. "PsyCap improved proficiency, adaptivity, and proactivity at work" (T.A.

Scandura, 2022, p.43). The personality job fit theory is another assembled batch of data that

attempts to match the personality type with a job that fits that personality. There is a

preponderance of research that helps determine if a job candidate fits the company. It all comes

down to doing what is right and how well you can perform your job duties. It is essential to

maintain professionalism and show respect to customers and employees.

Why Buc-ee’see's

The values that Buc-ee’s ee's exemplify closely match my values. These include how

they treat their employees as well as how they treat their customers. Buc-ee's also takes great

pride in its image and how the customer perceives them. They provide a friendly and clean

atmosphere for their customers to enjoy. The thing tWhat impressed me the most was how the

company grew from a single mercantile and gas station in Louisiana to one of the largest

convenience store chains in the world (M. Locker, 2022).

Factors That Led to Job Selection

I want to work for Buc-ee’s ee's because this job will allow me to take advantage of the

skills I already have. I have worked in all aspects of the retail business and have over ten years of

experience as a business owner. The main factor considered while making this decision was my

family. I have three small boys and spend 14 hours daily, seven days a week, at my business. We

have no real quality time together. They don’t do not know what it’s it is like to have time to go

shopping, out to the movies, or play at the local park together. The second factor considered was

the location, as this decision would result in relocating my family to another state. The last factor

considered was fringe benefits. This job would afford me the luxury of having insurance,

vacation time, and retirement (www.indeed.com). The possibility of having a 401K retirement

account will give me a sense of security for my retirement. These factors helped me to gain

perspective on what is best for my family and myself. I want this job because it will allow me to

continue my current career. It will also allow me to spend more time with my family. I needed to

consider pay because I must have the means to provide for my family. The benefits package of a

Buc-ee’s ee's employee is a great incentive as it will allow me to have health, vision, and dental

insurance for my family.

The Most Important Personality Traits for an Organization

The personality traits most important in any job are resilience, openness,

conscientiousness, and agreeableness. Being resilient in all aspects of your career and personal

life is crucial. A person who can overcome adversity and traumatic events becomes stronger and

handles situations more efficiently. “"Resilience influences the negative effects of stress after

adversity and makes it easier for the person to adapt” " (T.A. Scandura, 2022, p. 42). Being open

to new ideas is essential as it allows the employees to feel valued and lets them know their

opinion and ideas matter. Conscientious enables the opportunity to lead by example and model

an appropriate work ethic. It is beneficial to be agreeable as this creates a caring atmosphere.

These traits are essential in creating a cohesive team that focuses on completing tasks in a timely

and efficient mannerpromptly and efficiently. I bring all these great traits to the table.
