Cranial Nerve

Definition:-
The cranial nerves are a set of 12 paired nerves in the back of your
brain. Cranial nerves send electrical signals between your brain, face, neck
and torso. Cranial nerves help you taste, smell, hear and feel sensations

Names of Cranial Nerve:-

Here is a list of the twelve pairs of cranial nerves along with their
names:

1. **Olfactory Nerve (CN I):**

2. **Optic Nerve (CN II):**
3. **Oculomotor Nerve (CN III):**
4. **Trochlear Nerve (CN IV):**
5. **Trigeminal Nerve (CN V):**
6. **Abducens Nerve (CN VI):**
7. **Facial Nerve (CN VII):**
8. **Vestibulocochlear Nerve (CN VIII):**
9. **Glossopharyngeal Nerve (CN IX):**
10. **Vagus Nerve (CN X):**
11. **Accessory Nerve (CN XI):**
12. **Hypoglossal Nerve (CN XII):**
Functions of Cranial Nerve:-
The functions of the cranial nerves are sensory, motor, or both. Sensory cranial
nerves help a person see, smell, and hear. Conversely, motor cranial nerves help
control muscle movements in the head and neck

1. **Olfactory Nerve (CN I):**

- **Function:** Sense of smell.

2. **Optic Nerve (CN II):**

- **Function:** Vision.

3. **Oculomotor Nerve (CN III):**

- **Function:** Eye movements, pupil constriction, lens accommodation.

4. **Trochlear Nerve (CN IV):**

- **Function:** Eye movement (superior oblique muscle).

5. **Trigeminal Nerve (CN V):**

- **Function:** Sensation in the face, chewing.

6. **Abducens Nerve (CN VI):**

- **Function:** Eye movement (lateral rectus muscle).

7. **Facial Nerve (CN VII):**

- **Function:** Facial expressions, taste sensation, salivation, tear production.

8. **Vestibulocochlear Nerve (CN VIII):**

- **Function:** Hearing, balance.

9. **Glossopharyngeal Nerve (CN IX):**

- **Function:** Taste sensation, swallowing, salivation.

10. **Vagus Nerve (CN X):**

- **Function:** Sensation and movement in the throat, control of various internal
organs.

11. **Accessory Nerve (CN XI):**

- **Function:** Head and shoulder movements.

12. **Hypoglossal Nerve (CN XII):**

- **Function:** Tongue movements for speech and swallowing.
