Serious Infections Caused by Susceptible Strains Infants younger than 7 days old: 25 mg/kg/day intravenously every
24 hours
Adults:
Infants over 7 days old, less than 2000 g: 25 mg/kg/day
50 mg/kg/day intravenously divided every 6 hours; in exceptional intravenously every 24 hours
cases, patients with moderately resistant organisms or severe
infections may require increased dosage up to 100 mg/kg/day; Infants over 7 days old, over 2000 g: 50 mg/kg/day intravenously

Do not use oral or topical; not for use in trivial infections or for
prophylaxis
Cautions
CETIRIZINE Tablet
Cetirizine is a prescription approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Tablet, chewable
Administration (FDA), and over-the-counter antihistamine medication.
5 mg
This drug may be used as a treatment for annual or seasonal allergic and
vasomotor rhinitis (inflammation of the membranes of the nose not caused 10 mg
by an allergy). This medication is also used as a treatment to provide relief
of cold symptoms and other conditions such as urticaria (hives), Syrup
angioedema, anaphylactic reactions, pruritus, and allergic conjunctivitis.
Cetirizine works by blocking a certain natural substance (called histamine) 5 mg/5 ml
that your body makes during an allergic reaction. It works against the
production of histamine, and belongs to as class of medications called Solution
antihistamines. Cetirizine is available under the following different brand

names: Zyrtec, Zyrtec Allergy, Children's Zyrtec Allergy, Children's Zyrtec
Hives Relief, PediaCare Children's 24 Hour Allergy, Aller-Tec, and Geriatric
Wal-Zyr.
5 mg orally once per day, may increase to 10 mg per day maximum,
WHAT ARE DOSAGES OF CETIRIZINE? depending on the severity of the symptoms, not to exceed 5 mg per
day in patients over 77 years old
Dosages of Cetirizine:
Allergic Conditions, Including Hay Fever and Hives GFR equal to 30 mL/min/1.73 m²: Dose adjustment not necessary
Perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis and vasomotor rhinitis; relief of GFR 10-29 mL/min/1.73 m²: Decrease dose by 50%
symptoms from colds, hives, rapid swelling, acute allergic reactions,
pruritus, and allergic conjunctivitis GFR lower than 10 mL/min/1.73 m²: Not recommended
Children 2-6 years old Intermittent hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis: Decrease dose by
50%
2.5 mg (0.5 teaspoons) oral solution orally once daily; can increase
to 5 mg orally once per day or 2.5 mg twice daily; not to exceed 5 Hepatic impairment

dyphylline Avoid the use of alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers as cetirizine can
increase the risk of drowsiness. Cetirizine may cause central nervous system
theophylline depression; avoid activities requiring mental alertness until accustomed to
the medication.

This medication contains cetirizine. Do not take Zyrtec, Zyrtec Cautions

PediaCare Children's 24 Hour Allergy, Aller-Tec, or Wal-Zyr if Avoid the use of alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers as cetirizine
you are allergic to cetirizine or any ingredients contained in this can increase the risk of drowsiness

Contraindications
Pregnancy and Lactation
Avoid use if there is hypersensitivity to cetirizine or hydroxyzine.
The use of cetirizine in pregnancy may be acceptable. Either animal
