Introduction : Hawa Kanouté

Sustainability refers to the capacity to meet the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It
involves balancing economic, social, environnemental and politic considerations
to ensure that development and progess can occur in a way that is both
responsible and enduring.

1. Types of sustainability :

• Environmental : (Maimouna)
Environmental sustainability is the ability to maintain an ecological balance in
our planet's natural environment and conserve natural
resources or protecting the world's ecosystems in order to support health and
well being of current and future generations
In others words environmemental sustainability is the fact of ensuring that
human society operates with ecological borders

◇ Social sustainability : (Sanaa)


Social sustainability focuses on creating and maintaining a society that meets the
needs of its current and future members,fostering,well-being and community
resilience. It encompasses aspects like social justice,diversity,inclusion and the
overall quality of life for individuals and communities.

• Economic sustainability :(Djibril)


Economic sustainability refers to practices that promote economic growth
while minimizing the harmful effects on the environment and society as a whole.
Economic sustainability practices benefit businesses because they reduce their
energy consumption, their waste and other costs; help them attract customers
and
talents for whom environmental and social sustainability practices are priorities;
and decrease their dependence on limited natural resources, such as oil and
the coal.

◇ Cultural sustainability ( Sanaa)


Cultural sustainability involve preserving,promoting and nurturing cultural
heritage,diversity and practices within a society. It emphasizes the importance of
maintaining a balance between continuity and adaptation to ensure that cultural
identity thrives over time. This includes efforts to protect
languages,traditions,arts and other elements that contribute to the richness of a
community’s cultural fabric.

• Political :Sokhna Awa


Political sustainability refers to the ability of political systems to endure and
meet the long-term needs of society. It is indeed crucial for ensuring a stable and
prosperous future for our society. It involves having strong and transparent
institutions where citizens can actively participate and make informed decisions.
It also entails responsible resource management and respecting the rights of all.
By working together, we can build a sustainable and equitable political future !

In conclusion, the different types of sustainability mentioned above converge


towards a balanced and resilient

•Renewable clean energy


It refers to sustainable energy sources,such as Solar energy, wind energy ,nuclear
power and tidal energy.

•Crop rotation
It's is an agricultural practice that involves cultivating different crops on the
same piece of land.

•Water-saving device
It's typically a system designed to reduce water consumption.

Green space
These are areas landscaped with vegetation ,such as Paris and gardens ,that
provide social and ecological benetifs contributing to biodiversity ,air quality
and well-being.

3 :Barriers to achieving sustainability (Awa T)

Sometimes it is difficult to find a balance between the needs of people, the


economy and the environment.Moreover, old habits and existing systems can
make it difficult to adopt new sustainable methods.
Ex : overfishing
Limited Resources: The limited availability of certain essential resources can
retard efforts to adopt sustainable practices.

Economic pressures: Economic priorities may conflict with sustainable practices

Lack of Awareness: A lack of public awareness can prevent the extensive


adoption of sustainable practices.

Short-termism: Short-term priorities can take priority over long-term


considerations.

Lack of Collaboration : Sustainability often requires coordinated action. The


lack of collaboration between nations, companies or individuals can slow
progress

Economic Inequalities: Economic disparities can make it difficult for some


populations to access sustainable practices

environnement protection.
It also implies an
interrogation of existing modes of social organization . Achieving sustainability
