Purpose
This activity seeks to determine your ability to identify an intellectual-property issue
that persists in the Philippines and justify why it needs to be addressed.

Instructions
1. Recall the discussion from the lesson on the Philippine government's efforts to
protect creators' intellectual-property rights, including establishing and maintaining
offices and departments tasked with this.
2. Reflect on the current state of intellectual-property issues in the Philippines despite
these efforts.
3. Write a five-paragraph essay responding to the following prompts:
○ What particular intellectual-property rights or copyright infringement
problem persists today?
○ Why does it continue to be a problem despite the government's efforts that
you learned about in this lesson?
○ Why is it worth addressing? What is there to gain from doing so, and what is
there to lose from not doing so?
4. Consider using one paragraph to introduce and establish your main answer
identifying the issue, two to three paragraphs to answer the subsequent questions,
and one paragraph to summarize and conclude.
5. Write your essay in the space provided on the next page.
