Whose Show Is It Anyway? 40 minutes

Purpose
This activity aims to analyze a media text using the audience criterion.

Instructions
1. Review the lesson, especially the TAP Framework and its guide questions under
Audience.
2. Think of a recent movie or television show that has a crossover appeal or one that
seems to be targeted to a particular audience but is also well received by another
audience. This usually happens with different age brackets.
3. Write a five-paragraph essay answering the following prompt: Is it ultimately a good
thing or a bad thing for this type of media text to appeal to different audience
groups?
4. Structure your essay by using the first paragraph to establish your answer, the
middle three paragraphs to discuss the media text’s audience and support your
answer, and the final paragraph to sum up and conclude the essay. You may use the
guide questions in the study guide for your reference.
5. Write your output in the space provided on the next page.
