Set 1: To have a successful conversation, it is important that the two

speakers share the same opinions on what they are discussing. To what
extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons and examples to support
your view

A: Hello...how are you today?

B: Pretty good, how about you?
A: Me too, thank you.
B: But I have a job interview coming up. I was a bit worried.
A: Oh, I've done that before
B: So in your opinion, how should the interviewee behave well? Should we
agree with everything the employer says?
A: I think those people should agree with what the employer says.
B: Why do you think that?
A: They should know that when they enter the company they are not allowed to
do what they want, there must be clear rules.
B: Hmm, I don't think so
A: So what? I think the employer is the one who makes the final decision, so if
you pass, it will be difficult to work with.
B: Oh, They should have their own opinion, even though it may be contrary to
the interviewer's beliefs.
A: Why? I don't think it's an advantage to the former.
B: It's good that they can express their opinion that they are enterprising
people. Don't companies need people like that? I think employers want to see
what we can contribute, not like uncreative puppets.
A: But then they will self-destruct, what if you do something wrong? I still
think people who agree with the employer are better.
B: But such people will be too timid and stereotypical to develop well and need
to be creative and have their own opinions.
A: Hmmm, that's also true. So in the future, we will hire people with their own
opinions to contribute more creatively.
B: I think so, I have to go meet a client. Goodbye.
Answer: Goodbye

Set 2: When people succeed, it is entirely because of hard work. Luck has
nothing to do with their success. To what extent do you agree or disagree
with the statement? Give reasons and examples to support your view.

A: Hello, nice to meet you.

B: hello, how are you?
A: I'm very well, thank you. But I have a question?
B: What's going on?
A : I think hard work is the main reason for personal success. Luck has nothing
to do with success. Do you agree or not?
B: I don't think so. I think hard work and luck are contributing factors that
influence personal success in their lives.
A: Why do you think so?
B: In my opinion, working hard is not the only factor. Even though some
people try, they still do not succeed because they are not lucky enough.
A: Can you give me an example? Because lazy and lucky, you will never
succeed. If you work hard, success will definitely come to you.
B: I'll give a few examples. Firstly, there are many cases where students study
very hard but on exam day something goes wrong leading to failure. There are
many people who don't need to make any effort when they just win a lucky
lottery ticket.
A: Oh well. After listening to you, I think there is a good combination of hard
work and luck in success. However, people should not rely on luck. They have
to make a lot of effort to have a good life.
B: That's a great idea. I hope that you know what you should do.
A: of course! Thanks for your nice words. I really appreciate this.
B: You're welcome.

Set 3: Some people claim that prevention is better than cure. To what
extent do you agree or disagree with this claim? Give reasons and
examples to support your view.
A: The Corona virus pandemic has made things worse, a bunch of people are
unemployed, some unfortunately they have died. I pray every day for our
world.
B: Please calm down. Now that we have a vaccine, I challenge the virus to
attack us. Nothing can stand against man.
A: Are you kidding? Vaccines only help you about 60% in preventing Covid.
Seriously, we have to protect ourselves, it's better to wash our hands, keep
social distance.
B: No, relax! I am still proud that we have a good health system with good
doctors, nurses and facilities. They would help us in any way.
A: If so, why are there so many deaths of so many doctors even though the
doctors have worked their best?
B: Don't be serious, being sick doesn't mean you'll die. Medicines were readily
accessible, that's why medicine was born.
A: Treatment or medication is only the last way to recover from illness. Health
is no joke.
B: There must be people like me so that doctors and nurses can have the
opportunity to work and then have a salary! I just give them a job to do. There's
nothing wrong with it.
A: It sounds like you have a very beautiful soul. If that's true, then protecting
yourself is also protecting the community.
B: No, I won't.
A: Okay, keep that in mind, one day you will realize what you think is wrong.

Set 4: Nowadays, young people often send their aging parents to nursing
homes. Do you think this is a positive or negative trend? Give examples to
support your view.
A: Nowadays, young people often send their elderly parents to nursing homes.
Do you think this is a positive or negative trend?
B: I think this is positive. It's very normal
A: Why? Why you think so?
B: First of all, due to work pressure and modern lifestyle, people have to work
for long hours during the day. They don't have enough time to take care of their
parents, making them lonely. If they are in a nursing home,
they will have friends to talk to. Second, the nursing home has full medical
equipment types of health care monitoring devices.
A: No, I don't think so. In my opinion, I think this is a negative thing and I
don't like it. I get upset when someone does that.
B: I didn't think you would react so harshly. You are a modern person. W
hy?
A: Because in my opinion, first of all, a nursing home cannot be better than a
home. Second, you think that young people do not have enough time to take
care of their parents, but why don't they find ways to arrange their time
accordingly.
B: I don't agree with you. You think too negatively.
A: When we were children, our parents also had to work a lot but still took care
of us. Why can't we do that when our parents are old?
B: I think you're a bit sensitive. I think we should stop this discussion.
A: I'm sorry if I'm too sensitive on this matter.
B: Okay. Goodbye
A: Okay. Goodbye

Set 5: Recently, while young people often consider backpacking as a

thrilling way to travel, parents only see dangers out of this trend. Do you
think the advantages of backpacking outweigh the disadvantages? Give
examples to support your view.

A: For me, I prefer taking guided tours. First is the number of visitors. It's not
just about traveling alone. I like to travel with many people. I can talk to them,
tell and listen to their stories.
B: That sounds great. I prefer individual travel. I like peace. I also want to
challenge myself. Going somewhere alone will help me learn many things, like
how to find a good hotel, beautiful scenery or my native language.
A: Why is that? I feel that going with many people will be much more exciting
and fun.
B: I don't know, because I prefer to travel alone. We have more experiences in
life than traveling with a tour guide..
A: Not really; You know no place in the world is safe, right? So if you get into
trouble, the tour guide can protect you.
B: Yes, I agree. But sometimes I travel alone just to reflect on myself, and I try
somethings news, you know?
A: Oh, that's right. Sometimes, being alone is best for you. But is it dangerous?
B: Well, this isn't for everyone. You should have many skills for personal
travel. Otherwise, you should join guided tours to ensure safety.
A: You're right. I have heard many cases of accidents. Someone was attacked
by a wild animal. Someone fell off a cliff. You must be careful.
B: I will. Thank you for this advice and conversation.

6. Plastic bags should be banned completely to help protect the

environment. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

A: Did u hear that the government is proposing banning plastic bags to protect
the environment?
B: Yes, I did
A: OMG, I’m hoping that won’t be true
B: I think it would be the best solution to end the plastic pollution. As far
as I know, the current situation of plastic pollution is very serious, the
amount of plastic bags in Vietnam is still increasing. This is a "burden"
for the environment, even leading to a white pollution disaster
A: But it will not be easy to completely cut out plastic bags because the price of
plastic bags is super cheap, and a large number of people have chosen to use
them, especially street vendors. It is difficult for them to find a better solution.
We can only reduce the use of plastic bags.
B: You should know that Its existence in the environment will seriously
affect soil and water, because plastic bags are very hard to dissolve and it
will cause the soil erosion, preventing oxygen, affecting plant growth. If
plastic bags are thrown into ponds and lakes, they will make water
polluted, leading to the production of many disease-causing bacteria.
A: This is completely prohibited, which will cause poor business people or
businesses to be unable to adapt and may result in negative reactions from
them.
B: So, what do you believe is the best solution to the problem of plastic
pollution?
A: We must further promote environmental propaganda and education in the
whole society to create changes and raise awareness
B: Alright

Set 7: Some people think that working out at the gym is more effective
than working out at home.
To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give examples to support your
view.

A: Hello Ha. Long time no see.

B Hi Uyên. Nice to meet you.
A: What’re you going?
B: I’m going to the gym.
A: How long have you done it?
B: I practice it for 3 months ago. Do you enjoy doing exercise?
A: Yes, of course. But I do it at home, by myself. Why do you like working out
at the gym?
B: Because I think that working out at the gym is more effective than working
out at home. People can do many exercise with right method. Taking a class at
the gym more enjoyment than doing the same workout at home.
A: At home you also can do the basic daily activities to keep fit. Beside that,
working out at home can help you save money each months because you
needn’t pay any fee of course or PT who training you how to keep fit.
B: But when you go to the gym, It offers an opportunity for people to learn
more, keep up with new knowledge and information, and make new connect
with people around you and easy get the new trends and advances in the fitness
industry.
A: You’re right. Both of them have so many advantages. But in conclusions,
PE also help us improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk
of diseases, and improve your ability to do everyday activities.
B: I think it depend on people’s demand and interest. I have to go now. See you
later. Goodbye.
A: See yaa ^^

Set 8: Subjects like art and music should be made compulsory in schools.
To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give examples to support your
view.

A: Hey Hà, Do you know what just happened?

B: What’s up? Is everything alright?
A: It’s not good, our school will begin offering subjects such as dancing, arts
and music
B: I really like it. Why are u not interested in these subjects?
A: In my opinion, It takes up a lot of my time because students like us have to
take mandatory topics in school and then have extra classes after school.
B: Well…for me, creative subjects are just as important as the academic ones. I
understand that most people think that business and technology are the most
important career choices, but design and performance art are all big parts of the
world that we live in.
A: Personally, I think that a person who is interested in mathematics or science
don’t like to spend time taking classes in art or music. For example, when I was
a student, I did not like to attend some of the art classes because it was too
boring for me
B: Alright, to give an example so I can explain more, we are often just more
naturally creative, and we should have choices at school to take those kinds of
classes – schools are supposed to help us try and learn new things and use
cognitive skills . After a long day of work, students can unwind with this
subject and learn about various cultures. So I do think they should continue
teaching those subjects at school.
A: Come on,I think subjects like Math, Reading, and at least one Foreign
Language should be compulsory for all. Other subjects such as Arts and Music
should be optional, as I think few students intend to work in the creative
industry or see it as a viable career path.
B: Okay, it’s fine

Set 9: People think that foreign cultures threaten the identity of the nation.
To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give examples to support your
view.

A: Hi, how do you think about the cultures of other countries?

B: I think each culture is a pride of each country, also that’s what makes us
curious about other countries.
A: Do you think foreign cultures threaten the identity of the nation?
B: Yes I do, as I said every country has its own culture because that’s the
absolute difference of a country and shouldn’t have any other culture from the
others
A: But I don't think so. We are living in a modern world, people are opening up
more now. It sounds more interesting to have many cultures from around the
world. That’s how we call “Variety of cultures”
B: No way, there will be no excitements to spend time travelling to other
countries to discover their culture when we already know and exists in our
country.
A: Honestly, in reality our country and the others are still developing well
everyday, governments, they exchange policies. We, the citizens, should
exchange cultures together to help build up our country.
B: The younger generation of Vietnam don’t pay attention to people around
them and caring about how people think about them. That such a shame
A: I know that is not good but intelligent people will realize what kind of
culture is good or bad to decide to use. That seems good.
B: Ok anyway i don't agree to let any other culture access this country, that is
bad identity.
A: Alright, I agree with you. Bye.

Set 10: Are social skills more important than education when looking for a
job? Give examples to support your view.

A: Hi, after graduation I'll look for a full time job. Luckily I studied very hard
the whole time at university, hopefully everything will be ok with my good
education.
B: Oh why do you say that?
A: Because high paid jobs always require good university degrees, also school
is a place which gives us everything we need for the future such as:
presentation skill, computer science, communication… That's why we have to
choose our favorite major first to prepare for future jobs
B: I don't think so. Social skills are more important, because full time jobs or
permanent jobs need experience. You have to get out there to experience in real
life. You will be aware of how difficult is, how people treat others, how
stressful everything is, then you will collect your own social skills.
A: No, I always follow the traditional thought of THE elderly , if we are well
educated, we will find a good job. Education at school is always the basic step
to move forward.
B: Not really, social skills are much more realistic, education is just what you
learn, but what you archive, what you experience is always from society, from
life. Look, Steve Jobs or Bill Gates decided to stop their education at school to
get their social skills from trying creating Apple and Microsoft and they got a
good job then became successful.
A: But before they quit, remember that the university where they left was
Havard, the best university ever. They used to be the best at first then they felt
that education was not enough that was why they left. If you want to get social
skills, first be good at school.
B: Oh, I will wait till your success. Maybe thousand years later
A: Ok, I will wait for your loss, maybe a few months later!
