Primary Succession
Primary succession occurs when living organisms move into a new area
that was previously uninhabited and barren. These areas usually do not
have topsoil and are rocky. An example of this is the rocks formed after a
volcanic eruption when lava dries up, creating a rocky surface. When
volcanic eruptions happen underwater, they eventually form new islands on
the water's surface.
