Interviewer (I): Good afternoon, Ranbir. Thank you for joining us
today. Let's start with your latest film, "Brahmastra." How was the
experience of working on such a grand-scale fantasy film?
Ranbir Kapoor (RK): Hello! Thanks for having me. Working on
"Brahmastra" was an exhilarating experience. Ayan Mukerji's
vision for the film is truly unique, and it's a genre that hasn't been
explored much in Bollywood. The scale of the production, coupled
with the incredible cast and crew, made it a challenging yet
fulfilling project.
I: The film marks your collaboration with Alia Bhatt. How was it
working with her, both on and off-screen?
RK: Alia is an amazing co-star. She brings a lot of energy and
dedication to her work. On-screen chemistry is crucial, and I think
our pairing in "Brahmastra" has been well-received. Off-screen,
we share a great camaraderie, which translates into a comfortable
working relationship.
I: "Brahmastra" has been in the making for quite some time. How
do you handle the expectations and pressure that come with such
a high-profile project?
RK: The expectations are definitely there, considering the scale
and ambition of the film. As actors, all we can do is give our best
and trust the director's vision. It's crucial to focus on the process
and not let external pressures affect the quality of our work. Ayan
has a clear vision, and I believe the audience will appreciate the
final product.
I: Your career has seen a diverse range of roles, from "Rockstar" to
"Sanju." How do you choose your projects, and what attracts you
to a particular script?
RK: I've always believed in choosing scripts that challenge me as
an actor and offer something new. The diversity in my roles is a
conscious decision. When I read a script, I look for a character
that I connect with emotionally, and a story that I feel has the
potential to resonate with the audience. It's about constantly
evolving as an actor and pushing my own boundaries.
I: Your performances, particularly in films like "Tamasha" and
"Barfi!," have been widely praised. How do you prepare for such
emotionally intense roles?
RK: Every role requires a different approach. For emotionally
intense roles, I try to understand the character's psyche and
emotions deeply. It often involves a lot of research, discussions
with the director, and, in some cases, personal introspection. The
key is to be authentic and honest in portraying the character's
emotions.
I: Apart from your film career, you are also known for your
philanthropic work. Can you tell us about your involvement with
various causes and why it's important for you to give back to
society?
RK: Giving back to society is something I believe in strongly. I'm
associated with several causes, including child welfare and
education. I think as public figures, we have a responsibility to use
our platform for the greater good. It's not just about acting; it's
about being a responsible and compassionate human being.
I: The Kapoor family has had a significant influence on Bollywood
for generations. How has your family's legacy shaped your journey
in the film industry?
RK: Coming from a family with such a rich legacy in Bollywood is
both a privilege and a responsibility. I've grown up around films,
and it's a part of who I am. While the legacy opens doors, it's
essential to establish one's identity and carve a niche. I'm grateful
for the guidance and support of my family, but at the end of the
day, my journey is my own.
I: Your father, Rishi Kapoor, was a legendary actor. How has his
influence impacted your approach to acting?
RK: My father was my biggest inspiration. His passion for acting
and his dedication to his craft left a lasting impression on me. He
always encouraged me to be authentic in my work and to enjoy the
process. Losing him was a tremendous loss, but it has also
reinforced the value of cherishing every moment and giving my
best in everything I do.
I: Looking back at your career, is there a particular role or film that
holds a special place in your heart?
RK: It's challenging to pick just one because each film has been a
unique journey. "Rockstar" and "Barfi!" are particularly close to my
heart because they allowed me to explore different facets of my
acting abilities. However, every film, whether successful or not,
has contributed to my growth as an actor.
I: What can the audience expect from Ranbir Kapoor in the coming
years? Any exciting projects in the pipeline?
RK: I'm always on the lookout for interesting scripts and
challenging roles. There are a few projects in the pipeline that I'm
excited about, but I believe in letting my work speak for itself. I
want to continue evolving as an actor and take on roles that push
me out of my comfort zone.
