CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This part of the study represented the research methodology, research instrument, data

gathering and the statistical treatment of data.

Research Design

This research study is an example of quantitative descriptive research because this study

aims to define the effects of family problem in the academic performance of the STE students of

Bancal Integrated School. Also the researcher wants to know further knowledge on how the said

problem in the academic performance of STE students. In this research, the researcher will

conduct an investigation to have knowledge on the said topic.

The Respondents

The researchers manage to accumulate partial of the STE students enrolled in Bancal

Integrated School in School Year 2019-2020 as the respondents of this study. With the minimal

number of 25 each section.

Sampling Technique

The sampling technique that is used by the researchers is stratified-random sampling

technique, the researcher group the STE students according to their sections (strata) and

randomly selects at least 25 students in each STE section.

Research Instrument

The survey questionnaire was the most important instrument in a research study to gather

the needed data. The survey questionnaires are distributed to all respondents with a clear and

proper instructions for the respondents to follow. Survey questionnaires consist of five (5) parts.

First part of questionnaire is where the respondents’ profile that consist age, grade level, gender

and name(optional).

Third part of questionnaire is on how often the students experience family problem.

Fourth part of questionnaire is all about the feeling of the students whenever they encounter a

family problem.

And the last part of the questionnaire is where the average of the students.

Research Gathering and Procedure

The researchers asked permission to all the subject teachers of the respondents. The

researcher personally gave the survey questionnaires and properly gave the instructions on how

to answer the survey questionnaires. The result of the survey questionnaires are statistically

analyzed and used to know the effects of family problem to the academic performance of the

STE students in Bancal Integrated School.

Statistical Treatment

In order to interpret the collected data, the researchers used the following statistical tools.
3

1. Percentage. This is used to determine the percentage of the students who experience or

encounter family problem and determine of how the students would rate the problem that their

family encounters.

2. Frequency. This is used to tally the respondents answers regarding the yes or no questions

like, did they experience having low grades because of family problem.

3. Likert scale. This was used to determine the level of reaction of the respondents whether they

agree or disagree on a certain topic regarding the questions indicated on the study.
