RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:-

The term “Research methodology” refers to a method or pattern for

gathering relevant and trustworthy data for a study. In the exploration
of matter and nature, research methodology is used to describe how
data is collected, analyzed, and evaluated using highly intellectual
activity.

In research study, talk about the methodology embrace for the motive
to assess the effect of simulation learning module on knowledge and
selected self-structured practice about therapeutic communication
among Nursing students, in selected nursing institution, Bhubaneswar.

The approach used by the researcher for the study is discussed in this
research chapter. It covers the research methodology, research design,
variables, study environment, population, sample and sampling
process, tool description, data collection method, pilot study, ethical
consideration, and data analysis plan. Overall, it explains how to collect
and analyze study data.

RESEARCH APPROACH:-

“The key to making a good forecast is not in limiting yourself to

quantitative information” [Nate Silver].

The most important aspect of any research is the methodology.

Quantitative research is the process of collecting and analyzing
numerical data. The purpose of this study was determine to assess the
effect of simulation learning module on knowledge and selected self-
structured practice about therapeutic communication among nursing
students, in selected nursing institution, Bhubaneswar.
RESEARCH DESIGN:-

Quasi- experimental research design will be adopted for present study

with pre-test and post-test research design. The study will take place in
two different contexts. The experimental and control groups are given
these settings at random.

In light of the study, the current study's research design is an Quasi-

experimental research design.

VARIABLES:-

 Demographic variables- Age, religion, family type, type of

residence, academic issue, education qualification, socio-
economic class, and knowledge of simulation learning are among
the demographic variables examined in this study.
 Independent variables- In this study independent variable are
simulation learning module on therapeutic communication.
 Dependent variables- In this study dependent variable are
knowledge and practice on therapeutic communication.

SETTING FOR THE STUDY:-

The present research study is conducted in selected Nursing Institution

of Bhubaneswar.

POPULATION:-

In the present research study it consists of nursing students in selected

Nursing Institution.

1. Target Population- The target population is the Nursing students.

2. Accessible Population- In the research study accessible population
consists from the selected Nursing Institution.

SAMPLE:-

In the present research study samples are the Nursing students, in

selected Nursing Institution of Bhubaneswar meeting who will fall the
inclusion criteria.

SAMPLE TECHNIQUE:-

The participants of the present research study were selected by non-

probability purposive sampling.

SAMPLE SIZE:-

Sample size calculated according to Yamane’s formula. Sample size

calculation-

n=N/1+N(e)2

[n=sample size, N= population size, e= level of precision of sampling of

error]

In the present research study, sample size is 120 of nursing student.

Experimental group= 60 & Control group= 60

SAMPLE SELECTION CRITERIA:-

In research there are two types of criteria present- Inclusion criteria,

INCLUSION CRITERIA- In the present study inclusion criteria are those

nursing student who-

1. Are available at the time of data collection.

2. Are willing to participate in the research study
3. Able to understand English.

DATA COLLECTION TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES:-

SL NO NAME OF THE TOOL VARIABLE TECHNIQUE

1 Self-structured Socio-demographic
demographic variables. Interviewing
questionnaire
Self structured Level of knowledge
2 knowledge Interviewing
Questionnaire
3 Self structured Level of practice Interviewing
Checklist

DESCRIPTION OF DATA COLLECTION TOOLS:-

SECTION-1 (socio-demographic variables)

In section -1, self structured demographic questionnaire is includes -

Age, religion, family type, place of residence, academic issue, education
qualification, and knowledge of simulation learning in selected Nursing
Institution, Bhubaneswar.

SECTION-2 (self-structured questionnaire on knowledge of

therapeutic communication)

In this study, there are 10 questions to assess the knowledge of

therapeutic communication among nursing students. Each correct
answer is given as 1 score and wrong answer is given as 0 & negative

marking is not there. The maximum score is 10.

The score was organized in 3 levels :

Excellent- 8-10
Good- 5-7
Poor- 1-4
Who are giving more no of right answer they have a good
score. Who are giving less no of correct answer they score less.
SECTION-3 (self-structured checklist on practice of therapeutic
communication)

In this study, there are 12 categories to assess the practice of

therapeutic communication among nursing students. Each correct
answer is given as 1 score and wrong answer is given as 0 & negative
marking is not there. There are 12 categories.

Maximum score= 12 & minimum score = 0

Poor = 1-4
Good- 5-8
Excellent= 9-12

CONTENT VALIDITY OF THE TOOL:-

PLAN FOR PILOT STUDY:-

The pilot study was conducted for ten days after receiving formal
administrative approval from Dean Sum Nursing College in
Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The research was carried out on a group of
students.
RELIABILITY:-

The accuracy of the measuring instruments is an important factor to

consider when evaluating to assess the effect of simulation learning
module on knowledge and practice about therapeutic communication.

PLAN FOR RELIABILITY OF TOOLS:-

The reliability of the tool was calculated by using Reliability coefficient

(CRONBACH’S ALPHA) formula.

DATA COLLECTION PROCEDURE:-

 Prior permission was obtained from the nursing institution's Dean,

as well as written permission.
 The Nursing Institution was given a self-introduction and the
purpose of the study, and the authorities were assured that
privacy and confidentiality would be respected.
 An interview schedule is used when a researcher asks study
participants questions orally in a face-to-face meeting.
 An interview schedule is developed to assess the effect of
simulation learning module on knowledge and practice about
therapeutic communication, in selected Nursing institution,
Bhubaneswar.
 For data collection minimum 5-6 minute time for each other. After
the time was over the researcher collected the questionnaires and
checklist and thank the participation for their cooperation.

The following schedule was followed for data collection-

 Dean Sum Nursing College in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, granted
formal permission.
 The study's data was collected over the course of a month.
 Prior to the interview, the investigator had obtained the subjects'
permission.
 The sample has been identified.
 The investigator had introduced herself and explained the
purpose of the investigation to the respondent.
 The study's objectives were discussed.
 The subjects were made to feel at ease for the study.
 They were assured that their responses would be kept private and
used solely for the purpose of research.
 The confidentiality of the information was preserved.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATION:-

 The research committee approved the research problem and

objective.
 The participants gave their informed consent.
 An explanation of the study's purpose was provided.
 The authorities were assured of confidentiality.
 The Nursing Institution's authorities granted prior permission.
 Participants were given the option of withdrawing from the study
at any time.

PLAN FOR DATA ANALYSIS:-

The systematic organization and synthesis of research data, as well as

the testing of null hypotheses using the obtained data, are all part of
data analysis (Polit & Beck, 2010). Descriptive and inferential statistics
will be used to analyze the collected data. The analysis will be organized
and presented using the following methods:

1) Frequency and percentage were used to analyze demographic data.

2) Pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental and control groups,

as well as the frequency and percentage distribution of simulation
learning among nursing students.

3) A "t" test was used to determine the impact of the simulation

learning module on nursing students.

4) To link demographic variables to levels of knowledge and practice,

the Chi square formula was used.

SUMMARY:-

The background of the study, the need for the study, the purpose, the
problem statement, the objectives, the operational definition, the
research design, the research approach, the study setting, the
population, the sample, and the sample technique are all covered in
this research chapter.
