What Is Maundy Thursday?

Good Friday - we know & Easter - Yes we know - most certainly.

But what is Maundy Thursday?

- It is the Thursday before Easter, it’s the day when Jesus celebrated his final Passover with
His disciples….
- What does the word Maundy means, in English it means Command or Mandate

So, what was the command which Jesus gave

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are
to love one another. (John 13:33-34, ESV)

Jesus demonstrates by washing feet of his disciples & partaking in Last supper

mercy and humility.

Mercy: Jesus showed mercy when He offered bread and wine as symbolic representation of the
cross.
Humanity: The foot washing scene teaches a valuable truth of humble service.

As Christ followers, we are called to serve others. Loving others and putting their needs above our
own demonstrates the beauty of the Gospel

It brings to mind that Jesus is indeed the Son of Man who came into this world not to be served, but to
serve and give His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45).

During next three days, as family, as individuals look for opportunities to serve others.
Look for ways in which you can put the needs of others above your own.

Think of the Last Supper a meal served with unconditional love.

Think of the foot washing as a servant’s act of grace.

The events of Maundy Thursday highlight the humility and servanthood of Jesus. His command to His
disciples is a command that He leaves for us as well, “A new command I give you: Love one another.
As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my
disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:34-35)
