AoA (Action-oriented Approach) is a method that focuses on the idea of teaching language

creating the real communication scenarios. AoA develops communicative competence of

students: they use language to communicate and apply the knowledge they got to successfully
perform in in day-to-day situations. So, it helps students to acquire the language right in the
classroom, as during the lesson they are fully immersed into situations that are likely to happen
in reality.

As for the UDL, it stands for Universal Design for Learning and it is regarded as a teaching
approach that aims at accommodation the needs and abilities of the students giving them an
opportunity to succeed. It serves as an example of inclusive education, as it creates a flexible
learning environment, provides students with all possible means to encourage students to
progress. It was discussed in articles 20 and 21 (Autonomía del centro) in ESO, in articles 23
(Programas del aula) and 31 (Medidas de respuesta educativa para la inclusión) in Bachillerato.

UDL stands for Universal Design for Learning, and it is an approach that gives some strategies to the
educator in order to reach perfectly to every student and benefit them in the same way. It appears in

On the other hand, UDL stands for Universal Design for Learning and it is based on a learning
method that provides several didactic options that help students become people who are motivated
and willing to learn. So, it allows the creation of specific teaching resources and a more personal
teaching environment and atmosphere. UDL appears several times but we can highlight articles 20
and 21 (Autonomia de Centre) in ESO and Bachillerato and articles 23 (Programas d’aula) and 31
(Mesures de resposta educative per a l’inclusió)

Both AoA and UDL are mentioned several times in the texts. As for my position, I have been very
interested in discovering about UDL (Universal Design for Learning), which appears in the text
when the elements and characteristics of Second language teaching are mentioned. UDL focuses on a
truly inclusive education, where all students have equal opportunities, without any kind of barrier -
whether cognitive, physical, sensory, emotional... - to access to learning; with this, UDL promotes
the adaptation of learning situations to the diversity of students. In this sense, it promotes the use of
different media and formats to present the content, the importance encouraging the diversity of ways
in which tasks can be carried out to promote the involvement and motivation of different learners
and, finally, awareness of the diversity of skills to express one’s own learning.

The term UDL stands for ‘Universal Design Learning’ and (according to Bachillerato’s Decree,
Learning Situations) students are able to apply and develop a wide variety of skills, values, and
practices in several situations apart from those shown in class.
