DRONE SHOTS: CARACAS AT NIGHT

DRONE SHOTS: WE PICK UP A SEDAN MOVING THROUGH TRAFFIC

ER
B1 INT. SEDAN / TRAFFIC - NIGHT B1

JULIA PETERSON (30), an investigative journalist, rides in

the back seat of a nondescript sedan, her hood pulled over
her head concealing her face.
VI
FEDE (late 30’s) her local Venezuelan handler, revolutionary-
idealists type, sits in the front seat, he speaks on the
phone to a contact in Spanish.

CARMEN (30’s) revolutionary-idealists type, drives them into

EL
the night.

We stay tight on Julia as she takes in her surroundings and

readies herself for the upcoming interview.

FEDE (O.C.)
U

(In Spanish)
We are crossing over into Petare
now...
IG

A beat.

FEDE (O.C.) (CONT'D)

(In Spanish)
M

No, no, no.... Concealed... This is

very important, please make sure he
understand this.

A beat.

FEDE (CONT'D)
(In Spanish)
Thank you. Thank you... We will see
you there.

He hangs up the phone, turns to the driver.

2.

FEDE (CONT'D)
(In Spanish)
Barrio La Cruz...

CARMEN
(In Spanish)
Okay.

Fede turns around and looks to Julia.

FEDE
(In fairly good english)

A
He will give you ten minutes.

JULIA
Thank you.

ER
B2 EXT. MARKET STREET - NIGHT B2

Julia and her team hop out of the car on a busy street, they
check their surroundings, then are led into a non descript

2
building.

INT. WAREHOUSE ROOM - NIGHT

VI 2

CLOSE UP: Carmen fixes a lav mic to the shirt of CESAR TORRES
EL
(60’s), a high level Venezuelan diplomat.

He sits against the wall; looking uneasy, very serious,

clocking every bit of the situation.

Julia takes a seat across from him, flashes a reassuring

U

smile.

He nods.
IG

Carmen finishes with the lav.

CARMEN
(In Spanish)
M

He’s good.

Fede sets up the iphone camera on the tripod, he presses

record, then whispers in Julia’s ear.

FEDE
Make this count.

ANDREA (40’s), Cesar’s assistant speaks.

3.

ANDREA
(In Spanish)
You have ten minutes.

Julia nods, she knows, then looks at the diplomat.

Fede translates for her.

JULIA
Thank you for meeting me, Mr.
Torres... I understand the risk you
are taking, the sacrifice. Given

A
your position in the government.

Fede translates word for word, we watch Cesar listen.

ER
CESAR
(In Spanish)
Yes.

JULIA
Why don’t you tell me - why you are
VI
speaking with me?

Fede translates. Cesar gathers himself, very conflicted.

CESAR
(In spanish)
EL
Well... What is happening in my
country is wrong. This used to be a
beautiful place, a place I was
proud was a part of me.

A beat.
U

CESAR (CONT'D)
But the new administration... We
IG

are killing our own people, robbing

them of what is rightfully theirs.
And your country... Is complicit in
all of this... I can’t confirm it,
but based on your history in South
M

American politics, I would not be

surprised if they orchestrated
everything that’s led to this
point.

Julia listens, nods, she believes the same.

JULIA
When you say complicit - what do
you mean and given your position,
what can you confirm?
4.

Fede translates.

IPHONE FOOTAGE: A medium shot on Cesar.

Cesar looks at her, debates whether to speak anymore. Then he

takes the jump.

CESAR
I can confirm that the United
States is working directly with the
Venezuelan government, the local
cartels, and Narco groups. I can

A
confirm they are working together,
circumventing the sanctions against
Oil production and exportation.

ER
JULIA (O.S.)
That is a very serious accusation.

He looks smirks, looks at Julia.

CESAR

A beat.
VI
No. That is a very serious truth.

There is a knock at the door in the background, terror washes

over Cesar’s face, he stays sitting.
EL
We stay in the interview iPhone coverage.

NARCO (O.S.)
(In Spanish)
What is going on in here?
U

Fede in the background tries to calm the situation. We hear a

few men enter in the background.
IG

FEDE (O.S.)
(In Spanish)
Remain calm, my friend, we are just
talking in here...
M

JULIA (O.S.)
Fede, tell them we are leaving.

FEDE
(In Spanish)
Stay right there Julia - we are
leaving... Right now.

A GUN goes off, Cesar is shot in the head and falls out of
frame, just an empty chair sits there.
5.

Screams echo out in the room, another round of deliberate gun

shots, sounds of bodies hit the floor in the background.

The tripod is knocked over onto the floor, in front of us, is

Cesar’s dead body, bleeding out - his eyes look right into
the camera.

A pair of woman’s shoes run past the camera, military boots

move quickly after, another gun shot and body hit the floor
in the background.

Julia is slammed down in the frame, between the camera and

A
Cesar’s body, her eyes filled with terror.

A black bag is quickly slipped over her head as she screams.

VI
GUNNER SNAPS AWAKE. CLEARLY SHAKEN... Getting his bearings.
His TV plays in the background.

On a news show is, ASSISTANT SECRETARY JOHN PETERSEN (50’s

former military, politician)
EL
3pt HEAD OF THE BUREAU OF OFFICE OF ANDEAN AFFAIRS: 3pt

JOHN PETERSEN
(on TV)
.... We've expressed real concern
about conditions in Venezuela. The
U

economy is in a free fall, the

Maduro regime has made alliances
with the cartels, and the crime
IG

rate is soaring... Specifically

when it comes to women. I will
personally oversee the President’s
cooperative reform effort...
M

A modern apartment, overlooking the ocean. Oddly devoid of

furniture except for the mattress he’s laying on and a couple
of random chairs standing in for tables.

DELTA FORCE DOG TAGS... AND A PICTURE. A photo of Gunner,

Moreau, GENERAL ROMAN, and a few others sit in a book case.

Gunner's chest is bandaged, spotted in blood. He scrambles to

chug some pain killers with a bottle of liquor before
dragging himself out of bed.
6.

Gunner stares out at the view of the ocean beyond the

windows. Breathing it in. Detached, well above the world.

SUPER: Miami, Florida.

BUZZ. His phone goes off on the counter; another bloody

phone, wallet, and 9mm sit on the counter next to his.

He looks, Unknown Caller, he lets the call go to voicemail,

then reads an old text.

“SITUATION’S CHANGED IN VE. CANT LOOK THE OTHER WAY.” He

A
pulls out ANOTHER CELL PHONE, covered in blood...

Fifty missed calls. Endless texts. But the last one sent is
the same we just read... It’s Danny’s cell.

ER
RIIING! RIIING! ... Another call; UNKNOWN CALLER.

He’s thinking to answer when: BAM! BAM! BAM! Someone’s at the

door.

VI
OFFICIAL AGENT TYPE (V.O.)
Gunner Jackson! Open the door!

Gunner steps up to the door, pistol ready in hand. A business

card is slid under his door. It’s the FBI. ‘Call us. Today.’
EL
He considers this for a beat... Puzzled. Getting a bad vibe.

4 INT. DINER - AFTERNOON 4

Gunner enters the classic down home diner, on alert.

U

Customers eat, TV plays behind the bar.

He approaches a booth towards the back where WEST (30’s,

IG

Texas boy, All American) and MATTY (40, Boston Born, Muscle)
sit waiting.

Gunner takes a seat at the booth, a lot of history between

these three.
M

West clocks him, Gunner asked to me...

WEST
So what’s up G..?

Gunner gives him a look, “Doesn’t want to say”.

MATTY
What..?
7.

GUNNER
Danny... He’s gone.

This stings them both.

WEST
Fuck man...

MATTY
I thought it was just an escort?..

GUNNER

A
It was supposed to be... Moreau and
Roman -- It’s fucking bad down
there. I had two agents at my front
door today.

ER
Gunner looks over his shoulder, a few patrons lock eyes with
him passively.

MATTY
What’d they say?
VI
GUNNER
I didn’t answer.

West needs answers.

EL
WEST
G, what happened to Danny?

GUNNER
He took two... I couldn’t get him
out... We were just there to
U

oversee transpo, should have been

easy money.
IG

Beat.

Gunner pieces together what happened.

GUNNER (CONT'D)
M

This fuckin’ girl... A journalist,

and her stupid fuckin’ camera guy -
we picked ‘em up, took ‘em to
holding - then word came down to do
away with them -- all hell broke
lose.

WEST
Word came down from where?

GUNNER
Roman.
8.

A beat.

GUNNER (CONT'D)
Danny didn’t agree with the call...

A beat, “They killed him”.

GUNNER (CONT'D)
I backed him. Girl got away.

MATTY
I told Danny not to go bro...

A
GUNNER
He needed the bread.

ER
MATTY
Ask us for the bread...

GUNNER
Said he needed to take care of
someone, it was probably for booze
VI
and pills - he checked out a long
time ago - you know --

WEST
And the feds at your door... You
made a mess on the way out, didn’t
EL
you?

Gunner just nods, West smirks.

CLOSE UP: THE TV BEHIND THE BAR SHOWS A NEWS CLIP OF JULIA’S
MOTHER (OLIVIA PETERSEN) ACCOSTED ARRIVING HOME.
U

Gunner’s clearly bothered by this lady’s suffering.

IG

NEWS CASTER (ON TV)

Investigative Online Reporter Julia
Petersen went missing while
allegedly trafficking drugs in
Venezuela. Authorities are looking
M

for a male suspect she was working

with.

CLOSE UP: GUNNER’S PICTURE POPS NEXT TO JULIA’S -

“UNIDENTIFIED SUSPECT.”

PULL BACK TO REVEAL

West starts to laugh, “here we go”. Matty looks at Gunner

eyes wide.

Gunner looks over his shoulder, eyeing the room.

9.

OLIVIA PETERSEN (ON TV)

My daughter is not a drug dealer.
Someone’s lying to cover this up, I
know what is really going on
here... And I won’t stop until I
expose the truth.

MATTY
Yo, what the fuck you into cap?!

West clocks the room too, then Gunner.

A
WEST
Leave out the back, before my mom’s
diner goes fucking viral.

ER
Gunner nods.

5 INT. SPORTS CAR / ALLEYWAY - NIGHT 5

Gunner makes his way out back of the restaurant, down the
VI
alleyway. He hops in a sports car, parked behind a dumpster.

He sits in silence, replaying in his situation.

RIIING! RIIING!... UNKNOWN CALLER. Who the fuck keeps calling

Danny’s cell phone?!
EL
GUNNER
Who the fuck is this?!

Nobody’s talking... Just breathing. Someone shoves a pistol

against his head through the open window.
U

MACE SPENCER’S GUY

Put the gun down... Out of the car.
IG

Gunner glances over at the GUY standing just outside his

door. The alcohol buzz is burnt off by a flood of adrenaline.

Very fast. Precise. He takes the gun away and slams the guy’s
M

head into car. Shoves the door open, throwing him off.

OUTSIDE THE CAR. IN THE ALLEY.

Gunner continues hard on the guy...

MACE SPENCER (O.S.)

Hey, go easy on him..!

Gunner turns, ready to handle more business, recognizes the

face connected to the voice.
10.

GUNNER
Mace?! ... What the fuck - that was
you on the phone?!

MACE SPENCER (FEMALE, SHARP LOOKING, EX-MILITARY TYPE) leans

on a luxury sedan. Wrapped in a pencil skirt and simple
blouse. A tomboy that never quite shed the uniform.

MACE SPENCER
Shouldn’t you be dead, captain?..

Gunner approaches her putting it together.

A
GUNNER
I want you to tell me what the fuck
you’re doing leaking my photo to

ER
the press.

MACE SPENCER
Come on, Gunner... You know that’s
not my style. My client on the
other hand - isn’t happy. You
VI
should have never gone out to the
jungle with Danny... But you must
be smart enough to have realized
that by now.

A beat.
EL
MACE SPENCER (CONT'D)
Please tell me you at least killed
the fucking girl..?

GUNNER
U

Maybe I did.

He spits out and walks away.

IG

GUNNER (CONT'D)
Talk to your crew. They were there.

She composes herself, follows.

M

MACE SPENCER
I can’t. Roman’s gone rogue. Taken
over the oil site - in deep with
the politics down there... I need
you to level with me, or this is
only going to get worse for you...
Where is she?!

He stops and turns.

11.

GUNNER
When did you start caring about
collateral damage - or anything?
You owe me, Mace. Now tell me what
the fuck is going on?

MACE SPENCER
Her mother’s making a lot of noise.
Getting the wrong people nervous.

A beat.

A
MACE SPENCER (CONT'D)
And.. I’m taking care of that
already. But the little girl...
She’s too close to my client. He

ER
won’t stop.

GUNNER
Who’s the client?...

She doesn’t respond.

VI
GUNNER (CONT'D)
Take my picture off the news, or
it’s you they’re gonna be looking
for.
EL
Now he really walks away and gets in his car.

GUNNER (CONT'D)
We’ll be in touch.

He takes off at full speed. Disappearing into the night.

U

6 EXT. CAPITAL BUILDING MAIN ENTRANCE - DAY 6

IG

Food vendors and news trucks are parked in front of the

capital building.

A HANDFUL OF STUDENTS protest out front. Olivia Petersen

M

leading them. Holding signs and pictures of Julia.

STUDENTS
We want the truth! No more lies!

DING! A text from an odd number: U R DRAWING QUITE A CROWD.

Olivia’s half confused half flattered. NOT SMART... She looks
around. Not enjoying this at all now.

OLIVIA PETERSEN
Can you take over for me?
12.

Hands over her sign to a FELLOW STUDENT. Replies: WHO IS

THIS? DING! GO GRAB A COFFEE.

Olivia scans the street, spots a cafe just over there. When
she’s approaching the door, Gunner falls into her step like a
ghost.

Baseball hat and sunglasses. Guiding her away into a NEARBY

ALLEY.

7 EXT. NEARBY ALLEY - DAY 7

A
They step off into the privacy of the alley.

West follows at a distance, staying at the mouth of the

ER
alley, on watch.

GUNNER
Whatever you are doing here, it
won’t bring your daughter back.

VI
OLIVIA PETERSEN
I’m not naive. Someone’s gonna tell
me what really happened to her.

GUNNER
Who’s gonna do that? You wanna hear
EL
a different lie?

OLIVIA PETERSEN
(smiles at his sarcasm)
You can start telling me your
fucking name.
U

GUNNER
You’re pissing off the wrong
IG

people. You gotta stop. Now.

OLIVIA PETERSEN
Fuck you. You standing here proves
someone’s spinning a story.
M

GUNNER
Bullshit’s everywhere, lady. That’s
life.

OLIVIA PETERSEN
You sound like my ex husband. Is
that it? You working for him.

GUNNER
I’m here to talk some sense.
13.

Gunner looks over Olivias shoulder, clocking West, who see’s

something in the distance, he shoots Gunner a look, then
takes off into the crowd. Gunner keeps his cool amidst the
tension.

OLIVIA PETERSEN
You are doing a great job. I
couldn’t care less if what I do
here messes up John’s political
career. You can tell him to burn in
hell.

A
This news pulls Gunner back.

GUNNER
John?.. John Petersen... The

ER
politician?

OLIVIA PETERSEN
Same asshole that for some reason
won’t move a finger to find his own
daughter... Now, you wanna tell me
who you are?!
VI
Gunner takes off his glasses... She realizes this is the
mystery man from the news.

GUNNER
EL
I’m the last person that saw your
daughter alive.

INTERCUT

CLOSE UP: ON A SOUND RECORDER. WAVES AND SOUND LEVELS DO

U

THEIR DANCE AS VOICES BEING RECORDED POUR OUT OF A SPEAKER.

GUNNER (V.O. RECORDER) (CONT'D)

IG

... Last time I saw your daughter

she was running into the jungle. I
took three bullets myself.

OLIVIA PETERSEN (V.O. RECORDER)

M

How brave of you.

CUT BACK TO: NEARBY ALLEY

Olivia can’t hold back tears. But she wipes them right off.

GUNNER
Now you know the truth, you need to
shut the door on this.

OLIVIA PETERSEN
You’re lying. Where is my daughter?
14.

GUNNER
I understand this is hard to hear.
But your daughter disappeared in...

INTERCUT: ON A WOMAN'S EARPIECE. SHE'S LISTENING IN.

GUNNER (V.O. EAR PIECE)

... very hostile territory.

INTERCUT: THROUGH POV OF SNIPER SCOPE. FRAMING GUNNER AND

OLIVIA IN THE SHOT. ZOOMING IN ON OLIVIA.

A
OLIVIA PETERSEN (V.O. EAR PIECE)
You say that like you’ve gotten a
new lease on life...

ER
A BULLET SLIDES IN THE CHAMBER. FINGER ON THE TRIGGER. READY.

AFTER A BEAT.

THE SNIPER'S TRIGGER FINGER IS STOPPED.

ITS WEST.

BACK TO NEARBY ALLEY

VI
FOLLOWING UP WITH A KNOCK OUT EXCHANGE. SNIPER'S OUT COLD.

OLIVIA PETERSEN (CONT'D)

EL
...How about my daughter? You left
her there. But that’s ok with you,
right?

GUNNER
There was nothing I could've done.
U

OLIVIA PETERSEN
Bullshit. It’s easier to just spit
IG

all over her face on the news.

GUNNER
That’s not me... This has to stop.
M

OLIVIA PETERSEN
You don’t have any children.

GUNNER
No, I don’t.

OLIVIA PETERSEN
There’s a super power parents have.
We can read lies in a child’s face.
Helps us keep them safe.
15.

OLIVIA PETERSEN (CONT'D)

Kids feel too guilty to fully
commit to a lie, that’s the stuff a
parent sees clearly... A face full
of Guilt.

This gets to Gunner. She’s read right through him.

OLIVIA PETERSEN (CONT'D)

You are not here for my benefit...
You came here thinking you tell me
your brave little story, we have a
good old cry, I tell everyone to go

A
home, and I’d simply forgive you.
Done. Free and clear... Well, fuck
you. You’re standing here and my
daughter isn’t.

ER
GUNNER
What do you expect me to do? Your
daughter is gone.

SMACK! She gets him across the face.

VI
OLIVIA PETERSEN
You are a coward, whoever you
are... I expect you to do nothing.

A COP has noticed the scene. She’s very serious.

EL
COP
Miss! Are you ok?

She walks away, as the cop comes over.

U

COP (CONT'D)
Hey! You! Stop right there!
IG

Gunner bails. Disappearing around the corner.

8 EXT. SMALL SIDE STREET - DAY 8

M

Gunner has merged in with the a handful of people navigating

the street... WEST catches up out of nowhere. Keeping pace.

They exchange a silent bonding look. These are good friends.

WEST
You know you got a tail?

GUNNER
Yeah, on me since this morning.
16.

WEST
I don't think they want your
autograph, Cap.

Tosses him a SNIPER BULLET. What's this about?

WEST (CONT'D)
How long you gonna keep the mystery
going?

He spots Mace’s blacked out SUV down the street.

A
GUNNER
Not long enough.

ER
9 INT. MACE SPENCER'S LUXURY SEDAN - DAY 9

Mace is sitting in the back on a CB radio. The digital

recorder from earlier next to her.

MACE SPENCER
VI
Putman... Do you copy?

Nothing but static. Her guy's behind the wheel. The doors fly
open. Barging in. West up front, gun casual on the driver.
Gunner slides comfortably in back.
EL
Mace can't help to laugh and clap at the bit. Gunner flips
the sniper bullet at her... She catches it.

GUNNER
Trying to draw more attention to
all of us? You’re being fucking
U

stupid...

MACE SPENCER
IG

Us? The way I hear it, they already

have a suspect.

The driver's packing. West shakes his head. Don't even.

M

MACE SPENCER (CONT'D)

Still look good, West. Been a
while.

West simply stares her down. Finds no comedy in this lady.

Gunner puts a gun to Mace’s head. Serious. Might just do it.

GUNNER
You're forgetting that I’ll do it.
Don’t push me, babe...

Mace ignores the gun and checks her look into a compact.
17.

MACE SPENCER
You’re a boring date. Got something
to say? Speak free, Captain.

Gunner grabs her little mirror. Throws it across the car.

Her driver draws the gun all the way now. West’s ready to
fire from the hip. ‘You go. I go.’

MACE SPENCER (CONT'D)

Are you mad the girls mommy didn’t
buy your cute story back there?...

A
I knew you were hiding something.

She quietly wipes off her legs. Doesn’t seem to care much.

ER
GUNNER
The girl’s too close to my client,
That’s what you said... You meant
close, as in family, didn’t you?

Their expression says it all. Gunner’s figured out who it is.

VI
MACE SPENCER
Be careful you don’t connect too
many dots, Gunner. You don’t want
to do that.
EL
GUNNER
We were never working for the oil
company at all... Why's this girl
got everyone so nervous?

MACE SPENCER
U

A lady’s gotta keep things simple.

They pay, I play. The rest is none
of my business - or yours.
IG

GUNNER
They just made it my business.

Gunner and West exit the vehicle.

M

10 EXT. JOHN PETERSEN'S RESIDENCE - NIGHT 10

A WOMAN (20’s), swims nude in the pool. Climbs out and dries
off, then continues to the house. This is a mansion. Serious
money.

A GUARD opens the glass door for her, they exchange a flirty
smile. She grabs a remote and turns on music, a sexy
reggaeton jam plays, surround sound fills the space.
18.

She begins singing along and moving with the music. The guard
completely distracted, checking her out.

As we continue with her into the house, in the blurry

background, Gunner appears and Chokes out the guard.

11 INT. JOHN PETERSEN'S RESIDENCE - NIGHT 11

The Woman’s in her own world of musical bliss. Singing.

Dancing. Navigating the house. Oblivious to the danger
following her in.

A
Gunner follows her, out of focus, disappearing into the
shadows. She stops to pour some wine and then walks away from
us.

ER
Gunner emerges from the dark just as she leaves, inches from
where she was standing. Watches her go on... Very still. He
listens... Hearing only her distant singing.

* A THERMAL RIFLE SCOPE SCANS ACROSS THE BUILDING.

VI
WEST (V.O.-EAR PIECE)
You got a male subject. Heading
toward the end of the hall.
EL
A11 EXT. ROOFTOP ACROSS FROM PETERSEN'S RESIDENCE - NIGHT A11

* WEST IS WATCHING ALL FROM A ROOFTOP.

Gunner disappears again in the dark. Like a ghost.

U

12 INT. JOHN PETERSEN’S RESIDENCE/LIBRARY - NIGHT 12

IG

JOHN PETERSEN walks in (50’s polished, politician), whiskey

in hand. Spitting anger on his cell phone.

JOHN PETERSEN
... You listen to me, keep putting
M

fucking pressure on him... No

matter the cost - just get it the
fuck done. Or I’ll nail him to his
fucking cross...

The place is crowded with military honors, political awards,

and photos with politicians. Hangs up, settles on a huge
chair by a desk and drinks the liquor in silence. The room is
all spotlights and shadows.
19.

JOHN PETERSEN (CONT'D)

(Into intercom)
Mike, can you pull the car
around...

A beat.

JOHN PETERSEN (CONT'D)

Mike?!..

After another burst of static, he lets go of the intercom.

A
Senses a presence, searches the room, finds Gunner with a
pistol in his hand.

JOHN PETERSEN (CONT'D)

ER
Can I get you a drink?

Gunner steps forward.

GUNNER
Whatever you got going on, I need
VI
you to call it off - Tonight.

JOHN PETERSON
I need the girl. I am sorry, I
can’t do anything until then.
EL
GUNNER
Like I told everyone else, the girl
is gone. Get used to that.

JOHN PETERSEN
Then I’m afraid the news is gonna
U

play the same tune.

Gunner smiles at him, “you don’t know me, do you?”.

IG

GUNNER
I don’t think you’re understanding
me, you’re done with Venezuela,
John.
M

JOHN PETERSEN
Don't be so predictable, man...
Come on. There’s too much money
exchanging hands for some dumb
whore to walk out of that jungle
holding a fuck you sign to the U S
of A.

GUNNER
The dumb whore, your daughter...
She’s no threat to you.
20.

GUNNER (CONT'D)
She’s either dead or doesn’t want
to be found - trust me.

JOHN PETERSEN
Oh, no, that’s where you’re wrong.
She hates me too much. That girl,
my daughter, doesn’t quit that
easy. Never has.

GUNNER
Your men out there can handle it.

A
John scoffs, laughs to himself at the mess.

JOHN PETERSEN
No... You... You’re the

ER
man for this.

GUNNER
What makes you think I can do
anything?

VI
JOHN PETERSEN
I heard what you told my ex-wife.
I hate to say it, but she is
right... You feel like you’ve done
something wrong over there...
EL
Gunner gives him a long hard look, fixing his mind to decide.

GUNNER
You’ll stay away from her mother.
And the news is gonna say it was
all a mistake.
U

JOHN PETERSEN
I’ll get the news and the FBI to
IG

stop, but no retraction until you

get her to me. Bring her back in a
fucking pine box if you have to.
You just make sure she keeps her
mouth shut. I’ll make it worth your
M

teams while.

GUNNER
I can’t make you any promises..

JOHN PETERSON
Then either can I...

They look at each other, both animals.

21.

13 INT. BUNKER OFFICE - NIGHT 13

CLOSE UP: Military phone. It rings. The camera begins to

DOLLY OUT.

A hand reaches in and answers it. GENERAL ROMAN (60’s,

elegant, ex military turned private contractor) puts the
phone to his ear. He smokes a cigar in the dimly lit office.

GENERAL ROMAN
Roman...

A
OPERATOR (O.C.)
I have a John Peterson for you sir.

GENERAL ROMAN

ER
Put him through...

On the other line comes John Peterson.

13pt INT. JOHN PETERSEN’S RESIDENCE/LIBRARY - NIGHT 13pt

General...
VI
JOHN PETERSON

GENERAL ROMAN
John, my boy... To what do I owe
EL
the pleasure..?

JOHN PETERSON
I just received a visit from a
friend of yours...
U

GENERAL ROMAN
Oh yeah, and who might that be?
IG

JOHN PETERSON
The one we thought was dead.

Roman registers, it’s Gunner.

M

GENERAL ROMAN
And how’d he look?

JOHN PETERSON
Alive... And full of intention,
General. He’s coming back.

GENERAL ROMAN
He told you this?

JOHN PETERSON
I asked him too.
22.

Roman smiles, shakes his head at John Petersons idiocy.

JOHN PETERSON (CONT'D)

Frankly. My faith in you is gone,
General. What we’re dealing with
now is much bigger than you, me, or
that third world sandbox you’re
ruling over down there...

Roman smokes his cigar.

JOHN PETERSON (CONT'D)

A
Comprende?..

Roman hangs up the phone, thinks to himself.

ER
He opens up the desk drawer, digs through and finds a photo.
It is the same photo Gunner had - he Moreau, Gunner, Matty,
and West.

14 EXT. ILLEGAL OIL SITE - NIGHT 14

VI

both military and latin rough necks; trucks move past with
pipes, oil drums, etc...

A group of Hummers pull into the camp and park in front of

the office. Moreau exits with a few officers, he scans the
property, makes sure all is in order.

General Roman is speaking to Moreau.

MOREAU
IG

He knows her camera man is dead and

we have the phone - that the video
it’s encrypted? No one is seeing
that video, sir.
M

GENERAL ROMAN
His concern is his daughter...

MOREAU
This guy man... Cold.

GENERAL ROMAN
Yeah...
23.

MOREAU
Well I have every rebel, narco, and
migrant in these mountains looking
for her... If she’s not dead
already, they’ll bring her to me
soon enough.

GENERAL ROMAN
And Gunner... How does he play
this?

Moreau looks at him, thinks.

EL
Matty’s dumbfounded.

MATTY
Where’s yours?

GUNNER

Don’t worry about me.

Gunner nods toward the booth, to take a seat.

Matty hangs back, staring.

They sit in the booth, Matty sets the tablet down.

GUNNER
So...

Gunner waits, West smirks.

WEST
Don’t patronize me, bro -- tell me

Gunner looks to Matty.

ER
MATTY
What?.. If you’re in, I’m in, you

GUNNER
Alright... Well, it’s a fucking

mess down there... Roman and Moreau
are tied into the government. --
The government is the cartel, FARC

Everyone’s a threat.
EL
MATTY
What’s Roman into down there, coke?

WEST
Black gold...
U

GUNNER
Oil.
IG

He nods to West, who finishes.

WEST
Venezuela has the largest oil
M

reserves in the world. More than

the Saudi’s... Since 2019 when
Maduro took over they can’t import
it to the US...

GUNNER
Yeah.. Roman took a contract with
Keystone Oil, created an alliance
between the government who supplies
the oil and Narco’s for protection.

GUNNER (CONT'D)
Roman oversees the production and

WEST

So what’s the op?

GUNNER
Peterson wants his daughter back,

bring her back breathing.

WEST
We’re gonna need to run some

VI
This is where we need Danny.

They share a grave look. Remembering their friend.

MATTY
He mentioned a guy he was training.
EL
WEST
You sure you wanna pop someones
cherry on this?

Gunner looks to Matty, Matty nods.

U

MATTY
We’ll check him out.
IG

WEST
Still... You think that’s enough?..

GUNNER
M

I got someone on the ground, he’ll

lead us in.

WEST
Bet.

GUNNER
Look, whatever this girl knows,
they want her gone... Moreau’s got
the whole country looking.
26.

WEST
And he knows we are coming, yeah?

GUNNER
Soon, he’ll know.

We sense the history in the room with Moreau.

MATTY
What did this girl see?

GUNNER

A
Enough for a Senator to want to
kill his own daughter.

A beat.

ER
West nods, he’s game, this is big.

WEST
I need a beer, you?

No.

Matty?

GUNNER

MATTY

GUNNER
You good, babe?

MATTY

Yeah cap... I’m cool.

GUNNER
How’s the water going?

Nods at his non alcoholic drink.

MATTY
It’s good, better this way.
27.

GUNNER
You know you don’t have to do this,
Matty...

MATTY
Nah cap, I need it. Since I started
drinking water - I could use the
action.

He smiles at Gunner.

A beat.

A
MATTY (CONT'D)
Why do you have to do this?

ER
Gunner thinks about this, at a loss.

GUNNER
I don’t know.

Matty nods, he gets it.

A Mexican gangster enters the club. It is an hour before

EL
A janitor mops the floor, a few girls clean the poles.

TWO STRIPPERS sit on the couch by the door, on their phones.

The gangster whistles, getting David’s attention.

DAVID
Oh what’s up bro, come in.

The Gangster steps in, looking at the strippers, nods at

them.

They look at him, unimpressed, David snaps his fingers -

keeps him focused.
28.

DAVID (CONT'D)
Yo, did you bring it?

MEXICAN GANGSTER
Yeah.. Right here.

The Gangster flashes a discarded fast-food paper bag.

Crumpled bills inside. Mostly 20s. A rare hundred.

David looks at the money, looks good. Then, produces some

goods of his own in a plastic bag, The Gangster inspects.

A
DAVID
Custom cellphones. Unlocked. No
GPS. Untraceable. Military grade
encryption. Built them myself.

ER
MEXICAN GANGSTER
Good looks homie.

David reaches out for the money, the gangster slowly pulls a
gun from his waste-band, David see’s this.
VI
DAVID
What the fuck?

MEXICAN GANGSTER
Is what it is man...
EL
DAVID
This shit is worth twice what
you’re paying.

MEXICAN GANGSTER
U

Looks free to me.

He grabs the money and turns toward the door.

IG

WEST (V.O.)
Ey bro... Leave the money.

West stares him down, Matty’s attention is on the women,

M

before he steps into the doorway.

MATTY
Oh, what’s up gangster...

West just stares him down, gun rests in his hand.

WEST
We gonna go, or you gonna get out
of here.
29.

MEXICAN GANGSTER
I was joking, chill.

WEST
Then get on...

The Mexican Gangster nods, moves towards the door with phones
in hand.

WEST (CONT'D)
Leave the phones. Find a payphone
if you need to make a call.

A
The Gangster turns and drops the phones on the desk, looks at
David.

ER
MEXICAN GANGSTER
This ain’t over, pendejo.

DAVID
Bye-bye, Bitch.

VI
The gangster leaves between West and Matty angry. Eyeballing
David who flips him off.

West hands Matty the phones.

MATTY
EL
Those kinda people shouldn’t be out
there with military gear like this.

DAVID
Oh yeah?.. Someone’s gotta pay the
bills around here... What do you

IG

MATTY
You served as a tech specialist

DAVID

Who the fuck are you?

MATTY
We work with him. Matty. West.

As stripper dips in far down the hallway.

STRIPPER (O.S.)
David! Someone clogged the toilet
last night..! There’s shitty water
everywhere.
30.

West and Matty are amused.

DAVID
(Hating her for it)
Fucking fix it then, Trixie..! I’m
in a meeting... Star, Dina, go help
her - get out of here..!

The two strippers roll their eyes and leave the office, David
recomposes himself.

DAVID (CONT'D)

A
... What’s this about?

MATTY
You built a device that can black

ER
out a large area from a
satellite...

DAVID
I wouldn’t call it large, but it
did the trick. Yeah.
VI
MATTY
We need you to do it again. Same
gig. Different place.

DAVID
EL
(Eyeing them suspiciously)
How long have you known him? Danny.

WEST
Long enough to take a bullet for
him.
U

DAVID
Is he back?
IG

WEST
No... He ain’t back.

David stares down West, doesn’t like his attitude.

M

MATTY
You seen any combat?

DAVID
Mostly recon.

West smiles at this. Unimpressed. David doesn’t like that.

DAVID (CONT'D)
You smile a lot, huh? This ain’t
that kind of club.
31.

David stares down West, he stares back with a grin.

DAVID (CONT'D)
What’s the job? How much?

MATTY
Civilian extraction. In and out...
You’ll be filling in for Danny.

He hands David a DUFFEL BAG PACKED WITH SERIOUS MONEY.

DAVID

A
So, I’m doing Danny’s job?

WEST
Unless you’d rather wait for your

ER
Latino fan club to come back.

MATTY
Or clean up stripper drippings ...

David’s in.

When?
DAVID

MATTY
VI
Get your stuff. We’ll be outside.

Matty and West look at each other, and then to Guapo and
Gunner, who slowly slides his finger on the trigger and aims

Roman pulls out her phone from his pocket, shows it to her;

ROMAN
The video, it’s encrypted... I need

Kiko, the Rebel Leader, moves the Migrant Woman, her baby,
and Julia into the horse stable, deep in the bowels is a cage

A
holding a group of migrants, locking it up.

The cage is nearly full, everyone is quiet, a bucket in the

corner for the bathroom. The migrant woman thanks Julia with

ER
a look, offering the baby to hold - Julia takes it and
smiles.

After a few long moments the cage opens up, a Rebel soldier
steps in, looks around the cage at each of the women - all
refraining from eye contact.
VI
The Rebel stares at the Migrant Women.

REBEL

You. Come now...
EL
The Migrant woman doesn’t look at him.

JULIA

JULIA
(In Spanish)
Hey!

Everyone stays quiet, they’ve seen this before.

48.

Julia rocks the baby, looks around at the other migrants, who
are quiet in fear.

After a few moments, on the other side of the tin wall from
Julia, we hear the sounds of the rebel man forcing himself on
the woman.

Julia’s eyes well up in tears as she coddles the baby.

33 EXT. JUNGLE / ABANDONED HOUSE / OIL REFINERY - NIGHT 33

A
Our crew comes upon an abandoned structure carved into the
mountain. They approach with caution, enter, and begin
clearing. The remnants of cocaine processing; oil drums,
cocoa leaves, acetone, sleeping bags, food, etc...

ER
They communicate to each other, all clear.

West sets up his sniper rifle, takes aim into the valley, at
a migrant camp in the clearing.

SNIPER SCOPE: ILLEGAL OIL REFINERY. MILITARY VEHICLES,

A few migrants are led back into the stables.

West is on the scope, watching the camp.

Matty and David keep their eyes on the jungle behind them.

DAVID

So this is what my pop was doin’...

They stop. Taken by the weight of his comment. Not knowing

what to say next.

ER
Matty deflects.

MATTY
Let me ask you something... You

club?
VI
West can’t believe it, he can’t let it go.

WEST
He can’t stop...
EL
DAVID
No.

MATTY
Why not?
U

DAVID
It was my mom’s business.
IG

WEST
You’re blowing my mind...

MATTY

David nods.

She a nice lady?

MATTY
Go easy on your pop, he was
protecting you.
EL
DAVID
You talk about him like he’s dead.

MATTY
Come on man, when you get home, you

U

shit than he is.

David takes the compliment.

IG

Gunner comes in on the comms.

GUNNER (V.O.)
We’re ready...

MATTY

He stands up and gets ready, leaves the house.

GUNNER (V.O.)
They got a group of detainees,
migrants I’m guessing - a few
women. No ID. But she’s there. They
got the whole place locked down.

West is on his scope, into his comm’s.

WEST
I counted eleven outside. There’s
activity indoors too, North side,

they led the migrants.

David listens in on the comm’s.

GUNNER (V.O.)
It’s late... Let’s not wake them.

A
Keep your kills quiet - count them

WEST
You straight, new guy?

DAVID
Yeah, I’m cool.

A
WEST
Danny would have been proud of
you...

DAVID
What do you mean, would have been?

recognizes him. He goes for the door locked.
EL
* He’s hit from behind. Its Kiko the rebel leader. Gunner
goes down, they have a hand to hand exchange, back and forth -
Kiko is the real deal. As he pins Gunner, he’s shot in the
head, falls dead - it’s West.
U

* Gunner rifles through Kiko’s pockets, finds the keys,

IG

GUNNER

JULIA
I’m not leaving without these

GUNNER
Drop the baby, come with me.
54.

JULIA
No. Not without them.

GUNNER (V.O.)
M

David, let’s go.

David is on his tablet, scanning the jungle, something is

different in his eyes now. He fires back at him, with
attitude.

DAVID
Don’t rush me. I’m catching some
heat signatures to our south.

Gunner looks, surprised, then looks at the tablet.

55.

JULIA
Where are you taking us? We can’t
trust you, you’re one of them...

GUNNER
Take a look.

He ignores her, looks to Guapo. He approaches and looks at

the map.

Guapo looks to the migrants.

A
GUAPO
(In Spanish)
Who knows this region..?

ER
A migrant man raises his hand, Guapo signals for him to
approach.

The man approaches and looks at the tablet.

GUAPO (CONT'D)
(In Spanish)
VI
Where is safe for you? Not near the
red.

The man looks at the map, points to a clear area.

EL
MIGRANT MAN
(In Spanish)
Here. There is a camp, her family
is there.

He nods to the woman who has the baby.

U

MATTY
What’re we doin, cap?
IG

GUNNER
We are getting these people to
safety, then we will get out of
here.
M

Matty smiles “This is not what we planned”.

JULIA
Excuse me... I need you to answer
me!

GUNNER
Listen, miss, we have to get you
out of this jungle.
56.

JULIA
These people were fine before you
all showed up...

GUNNER
They were fine? I just pulled you
out of a fucking cage...

JULIA
You know what I mean.

Gunner smirks.

A
GUNNER
How are you planning on saving that
little girl? When that camp wakes

ER
up down there they’ll kill everyone
of us...

He turns to leave.

JULIA

come back? VI
I saw you run away - why would you

GUNNER
I don’t leave people behind.
EL
Julia smirks at him.

JULIA
I bet the money isn’t bad either.

Gunner walks away signals for his crew to follow.

U

GUNNER
Real cute. I’ll send the bill to
IG

your mother next time.

West stops in front of her.

WEST
M

He’s the only one who didn’t take

the money on this one.

They follow Gunner, so do the migrants, Julia accepts the

help and walks.

37 EXT. OIL REFINERY - NIGHT 37

MOREAU
Gunner.

A
MOREAU (V.O.)
Afghan casing, modified tip... Made
by a guy I know, runs a shipping

ER
outfit in Miami...

Roman sets the casing down, looks to Moreau.

MOREAU
Gunner uses him.
VI
GENERAL ROMAN
He’s got the girl now... How do you
think he plans to get out of this?

MOREAU
EL
Could have air support - but with
the Narco’s, the FARC, and rebels
changing position daily - it’s too
unpredictable to have a set
extraction point. I don’t think he
has a plan right now, sir.
U

General Roman nods.

IG

MOREAU (CONT'D)
I think his plan was just to get in
- get the girl, cowboy it from
there. You going to inform Peterson
about this?
M

GENERAL ROMAN
He will just make a mess of
everything. That seems to be the
family business; Father, mother,
and daughter...

MOREAU
How do you want me to proceed?
58.

GENERAL ROMAN
Alert our Narco friends of what we
are looking for - I will phone the
others. The video’s gone but we
can’t have a pretty white girl
coming out of the jungle with a
story...

MOREAU
Got it. Yes sir.

A
39 EXT. JUNGLE / RIVER BED - MORNING 39

Our crew and the migrants break on the river bed.

ER
Julia is near David, who washes his face in the river - West

You don’t seem like one of these
military nut jobs...

the strip club.

She catches David off guard, not a lot of action outside of

DAVID
I’m just filling in for someone...
EL
West listens.

A beat.

DAVID (CONT'D)
U

What did you see, I mean why were

you in that cage?
IG

JULIA
Nothing good.

DAVID
They said you had a video?
M

JULIA
I did. It’s gone now. All I have is
my word...

DAVID
What was on the video?

She smirks at him.

59.

JULIA
What was on there is the only
reason I’m still alive... Get me
out of this jungle and in front of
a microphone and you’ll hear
everything...

WEST
Careful what you wish for.

Gunner is down the river bed, he stares into the water as it

passes by, deep in thought.

A
MATTY (O.S.)
We’re like the fuckin’ make a wish
foundation...

ER
Gunner looks to him.

MATTY (CONT'D)
First with the kid, now with the
village.

Yeah...

MATTY
VI
GUNNER

I mean, it was the right thing to

EL
do -- but it was definitely the
wrong thing to do.

He starts laughing, Gunner smiles.

MATTY (CONT'D)
U

This is crazy.

Gunner looks around, everyone looks happy, Guapo is talking

IG

to a few of the men in Spanish, laughing, makes eye contact

with Gunner, they exchange a look.

40 EXT. JUNGLE CLEARING - DAY 40

M

Our group walks through a vast clearing in the jungle, palm

trees etc...

41 EXT. JUNGLE / MIGRANT CAMP - DAY 41

They emerge from the brush into a small migrant encampment.

Family members in the camp spot them, rush to greet the ones
they know.
60.

Julia watches the woman with the baby and her husband be
reunited. This makes her smile, David too.

WEST
What’s the move, G?

Gunner thinks.

GUNNER
I don’t know yet... David, come
here.

A
David walks over.

GUNNER (CONT'D)
How’s our perimeter look?

ER
David pulls out his tablet, the region is alive, a lot of
activity.

DAVID
Active.

Gunner thinks. VI
The Migrant man approaches Gunner with the young father of
the baby, LUIS (early 40’s), Guapo translates.
EL
MIGRANT MAN 1
(In Spanish)
This man, wants to thank you for
saving his wife and his baby...

LUIS
U

(in Spanish)
Thank you.. Thank you all. I would
like to offer my help - I served
IG

under the Bolivarian regime.

GUAPO
He Says; Thank you and he would
like to offer his help - He says he
M

served under the Bolivarian regime.

Gunner looks at Luis.

GUNNER
How would you get out of here?
Extraction?

Luis looks at the Migrant Man.

61.

LUIS
(Spanish)
By boat, near Caracas.

GUAPO
By boat, near Caracas.

GUNNER
By boat how?

LUIS
(Spanish)

A
I will get you a boat, sir. I owe
you that. Please let me help. My
cousin, he has a boat.

ER
Gunner looks to his men.

LUIS (CONT'D)
I will drive you there, it’s okay
we go.

GUAPO
VI
He will drive you there, his cousin
has a boat.

Gunner nods, “okay”.

EL
GUNNER
Okay.

* Julia hugs the mother of the baby, touches the babies face.

MOTHER
U

(In Spanish)
...Tell our story. Thank you.
IG

JULIA
(In Spanish)
I will.

* The mother thanks, Gunner, the baby smiles at him, we see

M

him try and smile back. Julia watches, we see this touch her.

Gunner looks to Guapo.

GUNNER
You want us to drop you somewhere?

GUAPO
I’ll finish the op.
62.

GUNNER
I only paid you to get me to the
girl.

GUAPO
And you were only paid to get the
girl, not these people... You could
use my help, Caracas, is
different...

He heads toward the van, Matty and West are impressed.

silence.
EL
* David speaks to Gunner softly.

DAVID
Gunner...
U

GUNNER
Yeah, kid?
IG

DAVID
How long have you known my dad?

This takes Gunner by surprise, the others clock the

conversation.
M

GUNNER
Long time... Twenty years. Your pop
is a good man.

David stares at him, judging his response, then looks over to

Julia who’s asleep.

DAVID
She said there’s a video but she
doesn’t have it anymore...
63.

DAVID (CONT'D)
When you first found her. What did
she have exactly?

GUNNER
She was with a guy. Had a camera,
supplies, but... doesn’t matter,
Moreau destroyed it all.

DAVID
Has to be something.

GUNNER

A
Cell phones... But they have them.

David stares at him as if he wasn’t even there. Thinking.

ER
GUNNER (CONT'D)
What is it?

Matty interrupts.

MATTY
VI
Yo, G - why don’t you get some rest
- I’ll stay up.

GUNNER
Go ahead, Matty. I’m good.
EL
Matty adjusts and closes his eyes.

Gunner, sitting behind the passenger seat has Luis in his eye
line.

GUNNER (CONT'D)
U

You from Caracas?

LUIS
IG

Just north, near the water. This

used to be a beautiful place. We
call it tierra de gracia, or in
english, Land of Grace... Now they
say it’s the most dangerous country
M

in the world.

David hears this, nervously pulls out his tablet and begins
working on something.

Gunner nods, he knows this.

44 EXT. JUNGLE MIGRANT CAMP - DAY 44

Moreau and a few of his men pull into the migrant camp.
64.

The migrants try to scatter, Moreau’s men point their

weapons, freezing the people of the village.

Moreau grabs the Migrant man, and beats him in front of

everyone, holds him down.

MOREAU
Where did they go...

The migrant man doesn’t speak.

Moreau pulls out his gun, puts it to the mans head.

A
MOREAU (CONT'D)
Where did they go?

ER
The man doesn’t fear him.

Moreau looks around, see’s the mother of the baby, he stands

up and shoots her in the chest - the crowd gasps.

MOREAU (CONT'D)
VI
Next I’m going for her baby.

The man looks at him in terror.

MOREAU (CONT'D)
Do you understand me now?
EL

45 INT. VAN - DAY 45

The crew sleeps, David’s still on his tablet.

Julia wakes up, looks around, eyes Gunner who’s deep in

thought.
IG

JULIA
My mom... Why did you bring her up
back there?

GUNNER
M

She’s all over the news, causing a

scene.

JULIA
Jesus Mom.

GUNNER
They have us both pegged as drug
dealers.

JULIA
Not a bad cover story.
65.

A beat.

JULIA (CONT'D)
My father’s good work, I’d guess.
That asshole always finds his way
into someone else’s pocket.

GUNNER
You just shouldn’t have come to
Venezuela.

JULIA

A
Easy for you to say. You don’t live
here.

GUNNER

ER
Oh, I’m sorry, are you moving here
sometime soon? Wait til you see
Caracas...

JULIA
Don’t patronize me. Someone has to
VI
stop people like you.

GUNNER
I thought we all agreed to blame
your father.
EL
She laughs.

JULIA
Fuck you...

GUNNER
U

What is it with your family?

She takes a beat, then shares.

IG

JULIA
My mother spent every dime she had
launching his political career. And
when she was eight months pregnant
M

she finally went broke... As a

thank you, my father said to her:
“Look at the bright side, hunny, in
a month, plenty of people will pay
us to adopt a little white girl...”
He never cared about me... Or her.

GUNNER
He was pretty charming to me... But
I wasn’t pregnant at the time.
66.

JULIA
(manages a smile)
You’re a funny guy...

A beat.

JULIA (CONT'D)
He served, you know, for fame and
fortune... Yup... He was a hero.
Doesn’t it bother you that someone
like you gets involved here and all
the sudden there’s no hope for

A
these people.

GUNNER
Didn’t use to... But now it does.

ER
JULIA
(surprised to hear that)
Oh yeah... What changed?

GUNNER

A beat.
VI
Something. Something changed...

GUNNER (CONT'D)
Let’s just say... I’m done leaving
EL
people behind.

A long pause, she lets the moment sit.

JULIA
Well, thank you.
U

He looks to her.
IG

JULIA (CONT'D)
For coming back...

He nods, “you’re welcome”.

M

The tender moment sits... Then David interrupts.

DAVID
I figured it out... I’m in.

They look at him, what are you talking about? West, Guapo,
and Matty wake up.

WEST
‘Fuck you talking about?
67.

David shoots Julia a suspicious look. She stays in the back.

Getting anxious.

JULIA
What did you do?

DAVID
It was your cell... You didn’t have
to do anything to protect the
video. Phones do it on their own...

Gunner realizes this kid is actually on to the answer.

A
JULIA
They erased it, I watched them do
it.

ER
DAVID
There’s always a backup.

David holds out for them to see.

WEST
VI
What am I looking at?

DAVID
I was able to hack my way past the

thicket of palm trees. Camera following her frantically.
M

ROBERT (O.S.) (CONT'D)

Let’s go!

She's found a spot from where they can watch clearly.

JULIA
Toss me the phone.

He does. She peeks around to the convoy unload.

69.

A mercenary argues with a narco, pointing up toward the Oil

tankers.

JULIA (O.S.) (CONT'D)

Something’s going on in there...

ROBERT (O.S.)
Look at those weapons. That guy’s
not local military.

ROBERT (O.S.) (CONT'D)

Who are these people...

A
Julia watches as MACE SPENCER and JOHN PETERSEN step out of
the G wagon to greet GENERAL ROMAN and MOREAU.

ER
Briefcases are exchanged, the backs of the convoys unloaded,
reloaded with mysterious trunks. People shake hands.

ROBERT (O.S.) (CONT'D)

Julia...

Oh my God... VI
JULIA (O.S.)

ROBERT (O.S.)
That’s your father... We have to
get out-
EL
JULIA (O.S.)
Oh my God, wait - i need to get
this...

A few feet from them, the trivial argument continues.

U

Becoming louder and louder.

ROBERT (O.S.)
IG

Julia, What the fuck is going

on..!?

JULIA (O.S.)
Hold on..!
M

John Peterson then nods to one of the soldiers, who turns and
walks away.

The Solider shoots the narco in the back of the head from
behind. He collapses, limp.

ROBERT (O.S.)
OH FUCK!

Robert loudly gasps in disbelief, getting the attention of

John Peterson and the others.
70.

John Peterson steps toward them, making eye contact and

realizing it’s his daughter.

JULIA (O.S.)
We have to go! Now!

We see Julia in a chaotic shot. Tearing. Distressed. Taking

off into the forest, the recording ends. BACK TO:

47 INT. VAN - EVENING 47

A
The men all look at each other in rewarding shock.

WEST
Petersen’s done.

ER
MATTY
I saw Mace, Roman... Moreau.
All of them.

GUNNER
VI
Did you download it?

DAVID
I erased the original so they can’t
get to it.
EL
Julia is not happy.

JULIA
Fuck you..!

David is confused, thought he was helping.

U

JULIA (CONT'D)
That story is my only protection,
IG

without it - in the hands of people

like you I’m worthless now.

GUNNER
No you’re not. We will get you and
M

the video out of here.

He grabs a protein bar from his pack and tosses it to her.

GUNNER (CONT'D)
Why don’t you eat something, we’re
all on the same team here.

She takes the food.

JULIA
You got some hero complex, huh?
71.

His crew smiles at her comment, she shoots David a look he

feels it.

48 E/I. VAN / CARACAS BARRIO - NIGHT 48

The van pulls into a barrio and parks in the covered driveway
of a rundown two story apartment complex.

Gunner looks to Luis.

LUIS

A
We will stay here tonight. I will
arrange the boat for us.

GUNNER

ER
Why not move to the water now?

LUIS
Night is too dangerous, the city is
at war with itself... This is close
as we can get. We will travel in
VI
the morning to the water.

They look at each other, uneasy, unsure.

LUIS (CONT'D)
Come. It’s the upstairs one.
EL
Luis hops out, the street clear of activity but gun shots
echo throughout the city. The cities pulse is evil.

He opens the back door of the van, they tactically exit and
cover each other, making their way up into the apartment.
U

49 INT. BROTHEL / CARACAS - NIGHT 49

IG

They follow Luis in, weaving into the narrow hallways of the
building.

Inside the narrow hallways is lined with doors to small

M

rooms. A few prostitutes open the door and clock them. Gunner
scans each room. Then finds a second exit out the back,
clocks it.

Luis wakes up the MADAME (70’s, hunchback, worn down, foggy

eyes), his aunt, and explains to her what is going on. She
comes in the main room, looks at the crew; nods, then
retreats to her room.

LUIS
Make yourself comfortable, I will
make arrangement for the boat.
72.

PIO (15) Luis’ hardened nephew steps out and looks at the
crew, not pleased.

LUIS (CONT'D)
(In Spanish)
Pio, come, come say hello, it’s
okay...

Pio eyes them and steps back into his bedroom, Luis rolls his
eyes.

The crew shoots each other a look, makes themselves

A
comfortable.

After a few moments Luis returns.

ER
LUIS (CONT'D)
San Ines, ten miles from here, we
will have a boat... He will get you
to Curaçao. We will leave at dawn.

GUNNER
Thank you.

LUIS
VI
Let us get some rest, we will need
it.
EL
* Gunner looks to his crew.

GUNNER
Take these, I’ll take the one near
the door.
U

The guys each take a bed, David looks around, sits on the bed
with Julia.
IG

WEST
Watch your hands bro...

DAVID
Fuck you man, I am tired of this
M

shit.

The crew scoffs, kids grown up.

WEST
Oh yeah...

David goes in on them.

73.

DAVID
No for real, fuck you, all of you,
without me, you guys would have
never found her - you’d be fucking
dead. You guys are a bunch of
fucking apes.

GUNNER
Hey, calm down!

He turns and looks at Gunner, his eyes full of rage.

A
DAVID
Don’t tell me to calm down, fuck
you too!

ER
He stares down Gunner, somethings changed in this kid.

A beat.

DAVID (CONT'D)
And another thing...

I know.
VI
He nods at Gunner, telling him with his eyes.

DAVID (CONT'D)
EL
He gets emotional, first time acknowledging his dad’s dead.

DAVID (CONT'D)
I know he’s gone...

A beat.
U

DAVID (CONT'D)
What happened?
IG

GUNNER
Listen, I’m sorr-

David cuts him off.

M

DAVID
How did it happen!?-

A beat.

GUNNER
Moreau...

Gunner watches as David puts it all together.

74.

GUNNER (CONT'D)
That’s how this whole thing
started. Your dad saved my life -
he saved her’s too. I’m sorry kid.

David cuts him off.

DAVID
Just stop, okay! I don’t want to
hear it. Stop. Nobody fucking talk
to me.

A
He sits down on the bed, and gets situated, then gets back
up, heads toward the hallway.

DAVID (CONT'D)

ER
(to himself)
Fuck this.

GUNNER
Where you going?

VI
DAVID
I’m taking a piss, you wanna hold
it for me?..

He leaves the room.

EL
Julia eyes the crew, they look around at each other, that was
intense.

MATTY
I got watch this time, cap.
U

Gunner nods, gets situated and closes his eyes.

Gun shots echo throughout the city, cars, loud music.

IG

50 INT. BROTHEL / CARACAS / HALLWAY - NIGHT 50

David wanders the hallways, we can feel the danger of the

M

city in their presence... People are smoking and drinking,

eyeing him. He opens a door, looks in one bedroom, two people
are having sex - he shuts it.

He moves to the next door, hears the same thing, doesn’t even
open it.

The third is quiet, he opens it - candlelight, bounces off

his face.
75.

51 INT. BROTHEL / CARACAS / MADAM ROOM - NIGHT 51

The room is full of religious figurines and lit by what feels

like hundreds of candles - a voodoo vibe.

David steps in, taking in the room.

A hand reaches out, grabs him by the wrist, startling him.

It’s the Madame, she pulls him into the room, the door shuts
behind him.

He looks around.

A
The Madame begins touching him, rubbing her hands along his
shoulders.

ER
DAVID
What is this..?

MADAME
(In Spanish)
Quiet... Don’t speak...
VI
She touches his hands, looks at his palms.

MADAME (CONT'D)
(In Spanish)
You wish to leave Venezuela...
EL
She looks in his eyes, he looks at her in awe.

MADAME (CONT'D)
(In Spanish)
You’re just a boy... But you think
U

you’re a man. You are still yellow

inside. They will not let you pass
through without their blessing - do
IG

you see? They watch us... We

breathe their breath.

She touches his face now, continuing some ancient ritual with
her hands.
M

MADAME (CONT'D)
In the name of almighty God... I
save you from the fires that live
here - from the shotguns, the
knives, the evil that dwells just
beneath our cities fingernails...

There is an ethereal presence in the room now, a moment is

happening, David lets it wash over him.
76.

MADAME (CONT'D)
(In Spanish)
You must believe. Yes? Do you
understand? You will have safe
passage until I say -

The door opens behind him, it’s Guapo.

David just stares at him, snaps out of it.

GUAPO
Get out here, now.

A
The Madame stares at Guapo, David leaves the room - he seems
a bit dazed.

ER
MADAME
(In Spanish)
I must finish...

GUAPO
(In Spanish)
You’re done.
VI
He looks at her, then at the room, shuts the door.

The Madame walks over to one of the figurines, she picks it

up and looks it over...
EL
MADAME
(In Spanish)
My dear brother, carry out your
will. Find the souls of the sinners
and trespassers, carry out your
U

will.

She blows out one of the candles.

I’ll cover out the window, you get

EL
Matty insists.

MATTY
I got it. Get em’ out of here.
U

The crew looks at each other, we hear the threat yelling

outside.
IG

MATTY (CONT'D)
Cap, I got it.

The crew, nods.

M

GUNNER
I’ll be back after I get them out.

MATTY
I’m good - got my girl with me.

He rubs his gun.

a few Narco’s in the hallway trying to breach the apartment.
They are executed immediately.

EL
likely gone. They mourn for a beat. Covered in an alcove.

GUNNER
Everyone you see is a threat...
They are at war here, now we’re in
the middle of it. Once the sun is
U

up, we’re completely exposed.

* Looks to each of them.

IG

GUNNER (CONT'D)
Anyone else hit?

* They all nod “no.”

M

GUNNER (CONT'D)
Extraction point is St. Ines -
David, map it.

* He retrieves his tablet, and types it in.

DAVID
There’s a pedestrian bridge, leads
right into the heart of the city,
only one way to the extraction
point - right through it.
79.

* Julia shares a look with David, he’s scared.

* Gunner looks at the map, memorizing it.

GUNNER
Julia, you and David stay in the
middle. I will take point with
West, Guap you take the six.

WEST
Yes sir.

U

GUNNER
We’re on.

VI
* Gunner hands her one of his side pieces.

* She examines it.

EL
GUNNER
You ever used one of these?

JULIA
Not on anything that was breathing.

Narcos stand around the room, armed, among them is Pio.

VI
Moreau and Roman walk in, Matty smiles at them.

ROMAN
How you doin’, Matty?
EL
MATTY
Doin’ well, sir, thank you for
asking. Glad the Major could

MOREAU
U

My pleasure, bubba.

They stand looking at their former comrade.

IG

ROMAN
I told them it was useless to keep
you alive... That you won’t talk.
M

Matty nods.

ROMAN (CONT'D)
But I had to come see you off.

MATTY
Very generous of you, sir.

ROMAN
You know they are going to do this
their way...

He looks around at the Narco’s, death in their eyes.

MATTY
I realize that.

MOREAU
Come on, Matty...

Pio butts in.

PIO
(Spanish)

A
They’re going to St. Ines, the

Yes, the water...

Roman nods to the kid, thank you, Pio looks proud.

MATTY
Before you go, I want to tell you

gotta say, the performances were
great.

General Roman takes this in, the video is still out there.
U

ROMAN
Goodbye, Matty.
IG

He and Moreau leave Matty behind.

73 EXT. BEACH ENTRANCE / FAR END OF PLAYGROUND - DAY 73

Our crew makes their way through the playground, they’re met
by more military, General Roman.

BULLETS pour in from rebels and General Roman, our crew takes
cover.
VI
West spins around as best he can. Counter-firing on one knee,
killing the rebels, while Julia and David take cover behind a
fallen tree that barely does the job. BULLETS RAKE THE TREE.
EL
They trade fire back and forth while Julia stays in cover.
But it’s clear Roman’s coming for them.

ROMAN
Come on!

* West looks to David

WEST
IG

Cover me!

David fires a trio of shots over the palm tree. Barely

Covering West's run.
M

West goes to take cover, but... Roman gets him in the back of
the shoulder, he doesn’t make it.

West falls into the sand. Alive, bleeding. Wide open with no
cover now and plenty of bullets coming his way. He curls up.

JULIA
Get outta there!

Julia impulsively slides out of cover to go help West. Roman

takes aim. David can see his move.
92.

DAVID
Julia! No!

David stands up, and both him and Roman fire at each other
simultaneously. BANG!

She can’t believe it as she watches both men blast backwards

simultaneously.

Julia rushes over to David’s side, trying to hold his wounds

together. Getting herself covered in blood.

A
DAVID (CONT'D)
(bleeding at the mouth)
I did it. I got’em for you.

ER
JULIA
You did. Save your breath.

David struggles to get his hand in his pocket, pulls out a

tiny DIGITAL CARD.

VI
West straightens himself up against the skiff, watches them,
bleeding from his shoulder.

DAVID
Make sure your video gets out.
EL
Tears are pouring from her eyes now.

JULIA
Hang on. Come on, David, hang with
me...
U

She looks around, desperate, as if there was a solution...

She see’s West alive, so does David, he deliriously calls out
to West.
IG

DAVID
You see that, the new guy saved
your ass...
M

West smiles at him.

WEST
You sure did, new guy, I owe you
one.

DAVID
Tell Gunner, I did it... Tell
him... I understand now.

He’s dead. Julia’s rage builds, she looks and walks over to
Roman.
93.

He’s still breathing. Crawling to grab his weapon.

Julia kicks him over. Looks him in the eye.

She pulls the slide on her pistol, he begins to sing to

himself, catching her off guard.

GENERAL ROMAN
Lean on me, when you’re not strong,
I’ll be your friend, I’ll help
you...

A
She points her gun square and unloads the entire clip on him.

BLAM!BLAM!BLAM!BLAM!BLAM! ... And he stops breathing.

ER

GUNNER
You’re okay, pal... Stay with me,
we’re going to get you out of here.
EL
GUAPO
Make sure she gets out...

Guapo mouth is spilling blood, his eyes are struggling to

maintain life.
U

WEST
(fighting to get the words out)
Get them out... Finish this.
IG

Gunner looks into his dying eyes, makes a promise.

GUNNER
I will.
M

The lights go out in Guapo’s eyes.

Gunner takes a beat, then grabs his gun and carries on,
stepping over the Narco’s bodies and their truck.

A75 EXT. ABANDONED BUILDING / RIVER - DAY A75

Julia and West have David’s body on a perch, over looking the

94.

It’s no beach. Two large antiquated public boats are docked,

no sign of their contact. People from the town are waiting in
line to board the barge.

Gunner appears.

He see’s Davids body. Sharing a beat of pain.

GUNNER
You okay?

Julia nods, so does West - he holds his wound.

A
WEST
Don’t look like much of a beach,

ER
He searches for how they’re going to leave.

GUNNER
