INTRODUCTION

This quantitative research study wants to determine whether there is a direct

relationship, indirect relationship and no relationship at all with regards to the two
anthropometric variables. The wrist girth and height of a person through the
“Exploration of the Correlation Between the Height and Wrist Girth among Third-year
Students Pursuing Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Mathematics” .

Moreover, the previous studies of anthropometric indexes, are important in

determining the appropriate body frame of a person. Due to the confusion of the
correlatedness of the anthropometric measurement in which this physique
measurement confuses the involvement of the height and wrist girth of a person
towards each other. Hence, most of the related studies involve more than two
variables. And it needs a thorough analysis and browsing within the academic paper
itself to ensure the reliability of their correlatedness.

Additionally, the study will focus on providing a systematic and well analyzed
data of the relationship between the height and wrist girth among fifty (50) third-year
students taking up BSEd Mathematics. In order to prove the correlatedness between
the two variables. Wherein the data gathered from different individuals will be
secured by the interviewers among the researchers and will be attached in the
appendices of the study for transparency of the results, except the personal
information of the participants as we adhere to the ethical consideration of the
research study.

Furthermore, to solve the data gathered; this research study will use the
Pearson R to identify the behavior of the data in the graph, thus it will put both the
researcher and the readers at ease upon the result of the “Exploration of the
Correlation Between the Height and Wrist Girth among Third-year Students Pursuing
Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Mathematics”, as an in partial fulfillment
of the Problem Solving, Mathematical Investigation and Modelling.

Review of Related Literature

The “Exploration of the Correlation Between the Height and Wrist Girth among Third-
year Students Pursuing Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Mathematics” is
supported by various studies found by the researcher to solidify the claims and prove
the result of their analysis. Previous studies stated that the body mass index was
calculated by measuring weight and height (World Health Organization, 1998). Wherein,
Midsection perimeter (WC) was estimated in centimeters at a level lined up with the floor at
the midpoint between the highest point of the iliac peak and the lower edge of the last
unmistakable rib in the midaxillary line (World Health Organization, 2008).

Various methods have been taken to foresee level, which incorporates arm range, half-length,
knee level, ulna length, or hand length. It's simple and more open to gauge hand and it
requires a base scope of development by the patient. Consequently, the hand was picked as
the boundary of decision as it very well may be estimated most helpfully and requires, a
seismometer, an anthropometrical tape, or essentially a centimeter ruler and only one
professional (Guerra, Fonseca, & Pichel, 2014).

The anthropometric qualities of their level, age, weight, hand length, and weight files were
estimated and dissected genuinely for any tremendous distinction, and connection between
the boundaries examined. The outcomes from the current review show that there was a
positive relationship between level and hand length and different boundaries demonstrating
that level could be anticipated utilizing hand length, age, weight, and weight file (Ibegbu,
David, et al., 2015).

Wrist periphery (WrC) is a device to distinguish proportions of skeletal edge size without
being seriously bewildered by muscle to fat ratio variety (Grant, Custer, and Thurlow, 1981).

Studies have shown that, wrist boundaries a critical indicator of diabetes in the two sexes of
grown-up populace. In any case, its consistency is free of BMI or WC just among females
(Freedman and Rimm, 1989).

Wrist perimeter was estimated with subjects in a situated situation with their wrist front up,
utilizing a pressure gated measuring tape situated over the Lister tubercle of the distal span
and over the distal ulna on the right arm without the tape is excessively close or excessively
free and with lying level on the skin (Kinjo, Setoguchi, and Solomon, 2007).

The body frame size of the person is determined by a person's wrist circumference in
relation to their height. For example, a man whose height is over 5' 5" and wrist is 6"
would fall into the small-boned category. To determine the body frame size, measure
the wrist with a tape measure and use the following chart to determine whether the
person is small, medium, or large boned (Vorvick, 2022).

Women:

Height under 5'2" 5'2" to 5' 5" over 5' 5"

Small wrist size less than 5.5" wrist size less than 6" wrist size less than 6.25"

Medium wrist size 5.5" to 5.75" wrist size 6" to 6.25" wrist size 6.25" to 6.5"

Large wrist size over 5.75" wrist size over 6.25" wrist size over 6.5"

Men:

Height over 5' 5"

 Small = wrist size 5.5" to 6.5"
 Medium = wrist size 6.5" to 7.5"
 Large = wrist size over 7.5"

WrC is a simple, easy-to-detect anthropometric index which is not subject to

measurement errors. Additionally, WrC can be used both to decide about frame size
and to determine metabolic risks related to obesity. We consider that this easy-to-get
anthropometric index can be used both in screening procedures and clinical
assessment procedure for obesity-related metabolic consequences (Öztürk, 2017).

The simple and basic approach to estimating wrist perimeter is an extensive benefit in
regular clinical practice contrasted with the old-style anthropometrical estimation like
BMI or midriff boundary. One more benefit of utilizing wrist periphery contrasted with
the normal anthropometric measures is that mirroring a skeletal casing size, it changes
somewhat through time. Uniquely in contrast to midriff boundary, wrist periphery
estimation isn't impacted by clothing, breath or by postprandial state which can disrupt
the assurance of midsection circuit (Wills and Bhopal, 2010; Mitrea, Soare, et. al., 2013).

Theoretical Framework
The theoretical framework is a theory that can be applied to interpret and understand
data in your research study. “a theoretical framework utilizes theory/theories and
their constituent elements as the presumed ‘working model’ that drives the
investigation and analysis of a social phenomenon”.your theoretical framework will
shape how you look at and interpret your data.

Deductive framework, starts with a general theory or hypothesis and then uses data
to test and refine it. It is often used in quantitative study.

Conceptual Framework

A conceptual framework is like a roadmap for your study, helping you visualise your
research project and put it into action. It defines the relevant variables for your study and
maps out how they might relate to each other.

 In quantitative studies, a conceptual framework might be used to determine survey

questions or data points, or to generate a hypothesis for explanations and predictions.

Scope and Delimitation

The scope of this research revolves around exploring the correlation between
height and wrist girth. This study primarily centers on exploring the correlation
between height and wrist girth, specifically among third-year students which pursued
Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics at Davao Oriental State
University. While the study is anticipated to yield intriguing and valuable findings, it is
essential to address the scope and limitations of the research. Both male and female
genders will be included in this study to ensure the reliability of the researchers'
findings. It aims to encompass a diverse range of students in terms of gender,
aiming to explore differences between male and female students regarding how their
height relates to their wrist girth.

Particularly, the target participants for this research will fall within the age
range of 18 to 25, since it is when when people foster greatest bulk (Kisner & Colby,
1996). Laying out an extensive and comprehensive reference esteem among this
gathering is significant since quite a bit of bulk and strength is less inclined to decline
until some other time after middle age. Various experiments proved the significant
influence of the handgrip strength, through anthropometric made for their thought
and consideration in a future report close by grasp typical qualities (Angst & Drerup,
et. al, 2010; and Bohannon & Peolsson, et. al 2006).

Definition of Terms

Correlation - is a statistical measure that expresses the extent to which two

variables are linearly related (meaning they change together at a constant rate). It's a
common tool for describing simple relationships without making a statement about
cause and effect (JMP Statistical Discovery, 2023).
