Brief History
• 1820-1826 Establishment of the Singapore Police Force Major General William Faquhar, the first
British Resident of Colonial Singapore established the police department in 1820. he appointed his
so-in-law, Francis James Bernard.

• Singapore Police Force is one is the oldest government organizations in Singapore. From our
humble beginnings of a 12 man team, by Francis James Bernard.

• The Singapore Police Force is the main government agency tasked with maintaining law and order
in the city state. It was founded in 1820, and is under the supervision of the Ministry of Home
Affairs.

• The British Military Administration took charge of Singapore until April 1 1946 when the Straits
Settlements was dissolved and Singapore become a crown colony. Under this new administration ,
the Police in Singapore was renamed the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in 1945 and headed by
Colonel R. E. Foulger.

ROYAL MALAYSIAN POLICE

Brief History
The modern police organization in Malaysia started in March 25,1807 after the Charter of Justice in Penang
was granted. Most of the Officers were of British origin.

A police force has been in existence in Malaysia since the day of the Malacca Sultanate. Malacca canonical
law created what was essentially a police force in Malaysia in the 15 century, through the institution of the
Temenggung and Hulubalang, or Royal warriors.

Mission
Provides a sense of pride and love for the Royal Malaysian Police Force to all members of the team and
provides an understanding of the functions and roles and responsibilities of the Royal Malaysian Police
Force to the community.

Vision
To preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the Royal Malaysian Police by collecting, preserving,
keeping, documenting, investigating, interpreting and exhibiting in a systematic way of the old and latest
items that have the historical and cultural values in the form of police traditions.
