Detailed Lesson Plan in Electrical Installation and Maintenance

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard
The learner demonstrates an understanding of the principles in performing
roughing-in activities.

B. Performance Standard
The learner independently performs roughing- in activities based on the
Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) and National Electric Code (NEC)

C. Learning Competencies
LO1: Install Electrical metallic and non-metallic tubing
1.1 Prepare tools/ equipment and materials needed for the installation of
electrical tubing in line with job requirements tle_iaei11ri-iia-e-1
a. Describe different types of bending electrical metallic and nonmetallic
tubing
b. Value the importance of observing common mistakes done in PVC bending
c. Give applications on the different type of bends in our daily living.

III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
IV. PROCEDURES

Teachers Activity Students Activity

A. Reviewing previous lesson or
presenting the new lesson
Preliminary Activities
-Greetings
-Checking of attendance Positive responses from the students
-Maintaining clean and orderliness inside the
room

The teacher recalls the previous topic by

presenting pictures of different types of
conduits.
Teacher let the student name each picture.
Name the different types of conduits.

1. 2. 1.Flexible Non Metallic Conduit

2. Flexible Metallic Tubing
3. Electrical Metallic Tubing
4. Polyvinyl Chloride Conduit
3. 4.

B. Establishing a purpose for the

lesson
The learners are expected to
a. Describe different types of bending
electrical metallic and nonmetallic
tubing
b. Give importance on common
mistakes done in PVC bending
c. Give applications of the different type
of bends in our daily living.
The teacher will show a picture of a bamboo
and a mango tree during storm to motivate the
learners.
Uprooted/ break. It remain standing

Guide questions:
What happened to the mango tree in the story By being flexible that can bend and
entitled “Pliant Like a Bamboo”? sway in the wind, absorbing the
storm's energy but not giving into it

How did the bamboo survive the storm?

Jump or leaps.
Avoid the hurdle to pass through

What athletes usually do when they meet

hurdles or obstacle in front of them?

Same through with conduits. You need to

bend in order to avoid the obstacle so you
may pass through and continue with the race
or path your taking.
C. Presenting examples/instances of the
lesson

Teacher will show students pictures of

different bends

D. Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills no. 1 Types of conduit bends
Teacher let students identify the pictures
and describe them.

90 degree stub up bend

 bending a piece of piping into a
90 degree or ‘L’ shape.
 This bend is frequently used to
-run conduit into electrical
boxes,
- run pipes up and down walls
-run pipe into walls through
floors and ceilings.

Back to back bend

 built on from an initial stub up
bend, and looks like an elongated
‘U’ shape
 used when you need to fit pipe
between two parallel surfaces,
such as between two walls,
where you need to keep the ends
of the pipe tight to the surface.

Offset bend
 made of two equal degree bends
in opposite directions.
 to create a staggered joint and to
create change in elevation Offsets
are also used to
 route conduit to outlet boxes,
cabinets, panelboards, and pull
boxes.
Saddle bend
 saddle bend is, like the offset
bend, used to move the pipe
around obstacles. However, this
bend returns to its original path
once it has passed the obstacle.
 Used in ductwork or piping
 Both three- bend and four-bend
saddles can be used

E. Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills no. 2

In bending PVC pipes, it should only be

heated to the point where the pipe
becomes soft enough to bend it in the
desired shape. The exterior of the pipe
should absolutely show no sign that the
pipe is heated.
Common mistakes in bending PVC
The teacher show pictures of damaged PVC pipes.
pipe and let the students identify common
mistakes in bending PVC
1. Pipe diameter is reduced or
crushed
2. Discoloration
3. Burns
4. Kinks
5. Deformed or melting of the pipe.

What are the possibilities if your

The pipes will be easily broken.
pipes show some of these common
mistakes?

F. Developing Mastery

Teacher will show pictures on the

application of conduit bends and let
students describe how they are used
and identify the type of bend.

1. Bend is used between to wall to

keep the end of the pipes on the
surface- BACK TO BACK BEND
2. The bend jumps over the moldex
in order to make a pass -THREE
POINT SADDLE BEND
1.

3. The pipe runs from the surface of

the wall up to the ceiling- 90
2. degree STUB UP BEND

4. The pipe makes a four bends to

over pass an air duct. FOUR
3.
POINT SADDLE BEND

5. It is a bend where a pipe must

4. change elevation in order to fit
into a junction box or utility box.
– OFFSET BEND

5.

G. Finding practical applications of

concepts and skills in daily living
Pipe bending is not just for electrical
purposes, it is also aligned in plumbing.
Can you name applications of conduit or
pipe bends at home, at the kitchen and inside
a bathroom? Also on your motorbikes and
four wheels.
Pipes are not the only things that
can be bend.

Are you aware that Tayum is known

for its quality weaved basket?

Our Tadek dance

H. Making generalizations and

abstractions about the lesson

In order to succeed like our athletes

and bamboo tree, we need to be
flexible enough to manage our
problems, or obstacles we meet
along our way.

Like the weaver and the dancer

We bend to move, to dance, and to be
productive

I. Evaluating Learning
Short quiz
1. What type of bend is built from an
initial stub up and looks like an
elongated.
2. This bend is used to pass over small
obstacle
3. It is a bend used to create a change
in elevation.
4. A saddle bend that is used to jump
over an obstacle too large for the
other bend
5. It is bending a piece of piping into a n
‘L” shaped.

J. Additional Activities for application

or remediation

Assignment:

1. Watch the link I send in your

messenger on how to bend a 90 degree
stub up at home.
2. Make an advance practice on how to
do it to perfect your performance job
tomorrow. Observe safety at all times.
3. Do not forget to bring the needed
materials and tools on your
performance job.
