1. Before Chandrayaan 3, Chandrayaan I was launched on August 15, 2023.

On
November 8, 2008 Chandrayaan 1 made a splash in the history of lunar
exploration by discovering water on Moon. On September 6, 2016 Chandrayaan
2 bravely attempted to land on lunar south pole. The ISRO scientists addressed
the shortcomings and the Chandrayaan 3 was launched accordingly.
2. Chandrayaan 3 spacecraft was launched on July 14 from Satish Dhawan
Space Centre, Sriharikota at 2:35 pm.
3. Chandrayaan 3 is all set to make the historic lunar south pole landing on
August 23 at 6.04 pm.
4. Chandrayaan-3 will just have a lander and a rover unlike Chandrayaan 2
which also had an orbitar.
5. Till now, Russia, China and the United States have seen a successful "soft"
landing on the lunar surface.
6. Chandrayaan 3 aims to Target Moon's South Pole; it contains larger
shadowed areas than the northern pole.
Scientists believe that these areas on the lunar surface possibly have a
permanent source of water.
7. Chandrayaan-3's journey is taking around 42 days
8. The Vikram lander and the Pragyan rover will have a mission life of one lunar
day (about 14 Earth days) as they work on solar energy.
9. Earlier ISRO planned to launch Chandrayaan 3 in 2021. However, it was
delayed due to COVID-19.
10. A GSLV Mark 3 (LVM 3) heavy-lift launch vehicle was used for the launch
of the spacecraft that was placed in the lunar orbit on August 5 and since then it
has been through a series of orbital manoeuvres been lowered closer
to the moon's surface
Aspirants must know that Tamil Nadu's Namakkal district has been supplying
soil to ISRO for over a decade. Since 2012, the properties of this soil have
enabled the Indian space agency to refine its lander module's ability to soft land
on the lunar surface. Ahead of its landing, Indian Space Research Organisation,
