Electromagnetic induction

Definition:-The process of generating an

induced current in a circuit by changing the
number of magnetic lines of force passing
through it is called electromagnetic induction
Flux:- Definition:- The number of lines
passing through any cross sectional area is
called flux.
Strength of field
• Strength of field depends upon the number of lines passing through any
cross sectional area is called strength of field.

weak
Weak field ( less number of lines)
Example
• Take a coil and bring near the magnetic bar .
• More number of lines will cross through the
coil if it is near to the coil.
• Field will be weak if less number of lines pass
through the coil.

• This means we can change the number of

magnetic lines of force through a coil by
moving it in the magnetic field. This change in
number of lines of force induce an e.m.f. in the
coil and current starts to pass through the coil.
Factors affecting induced e.m.f.
• Speed of relative motion of the coil and the
magnet
• Number of turns of the coil.
• Amount of current passing through the coil.
