ABSTRACT

Concrete is composite material of sand, cement, aggregate, and water. Each material
has own properties and contribution but have you imagine concrete without sand?

Sand is an important material for concrete. Sand plays vital role in deciding the
strength sand good and good quality of concrete. Sand increase the volume of mortar, making
mortar economical and also prevents excessive shrinkage of cement paste, thereby avoiding
cracks during setting. Fine sand occupies void in making concrete a solid and water proof
material. Sand spells the difference between the construction success and failure. Sand
ensures the strength and beauty of the construction. Natural’s sand is being depleted and
efforts are being made to conserve it. Use of crushed sand is less efficient than natural one.
Better option is to eliminate the use of sand in less important work. The concrete without
sand is known as Pervious Concrete.

As regular concrete is unable to drain water, but is possible with pervious concrete.
Regular concrete also failed in reducing the storm water, increasing ground water table.
Through initial cost of pervious concrete is more but overall system we consider then the
pervious concrete is sustainable product.

Pervious concrete is special type of concrete used for concrete flat work through initial
cost of pervious concrete is more but overall system we consider then the pervious concrete
is sustainable product.

Pervious concrete is special type of concrete used for concrete flat work application.
It has wide range of application discussed in our paper. Testing and inspection under various
grade of aggregate is worked out and its details are presented in paper. This paper is focused
on evaluating the performance of different pervious concrete mixtures in an endeavor to
achieve an optimized mix with adequate flexural strength, compressive strength and porosity.
Also the details of construction or proper laying of concrete shown in paper.

Aimed at developing a new type of permeable concrete with enhanced structural

strength, various mix designs were attempted and their effects on the compressive strength
and permeability of permeable concrete were investigated in this research.

It is better option for pavement blocks and regular concrete in areas like
parking and side walk.
